Default Key fob quesiton

I bought a used 04 Z a little over a week ago. It did not come with a key fob. I just sold my 05 Altima SE-R and I still have a key fob from the altima. I looked up online and it seems very easy to program, I was wondering if I can re-program the altima fob and use it for the Z? My concern is messing with the security transponders in the Z, but not sure if that really makes a difference with the fobs???

Any advice is much appreciated!

I believe the security is all in the key. But you do have want to have any keys and or remotes that you are going to program available at the same time. My Z came with no fob and I programmed it following the instructions. Only downside from how I programed it is I would have deprogrammed any previously programmed remotes. It was a plus since I bought used.

when I bought my 04 Z back in March. I had one key fob and two regular keys. I decided to venture onto amazon and found a key fob for the Z. I believe it was 13 dollars. it came with instructions. works fine. my only gripe is that the range is not very far. but overall im happy. this could be an option for you

The key and fob are separate. Thank God. You can go to a dealer and get a fob relatively inexpensively. The Z key itself is obviously not connected to the lock/unlock fob.

If the fob appears to be the same as the original Z fob, all you have to do is look up instructions and it should program. All the key fob will do is open your windows, lock/unlock, and pop trunk. It has nothing to do with starting the car.

HI travisvt, did you manage to get the altima's fob to work on the Z?

You can buy a Nissan FOB for $10.00 or less and program it yourself for $free.

If you program a new FOB, you also must reprogram all your existing FOB’s. It is easy to do this, and it takes only 2 or 3 minutes.

As others have stated here, you cannot program a key replacement; you must have the dealership program new keys.
