If the battery is fully discharged than disconnecting it won't make any difference. But depending on how old and used it is, it might be worth trying to put it on a slow charge and see how it holds a charge after a day or so. Just putting a charger on a battery and using an 'engine start' setting won't allow it to spin the starter if the charge is too low.

Do you have a Voltmeter? You might think it's dead but it just might not have enough juice to start it but it's far from dead

Check this link:

I would leave a smart charger installed on the car and leave the battery in the car so that the smart charger will always keep a minimum level and it won't erase your clock, radio presets, and other items.

I just went through a similar situation so I started reading up on how to prevent it again. I just try to regularly check my voltage using both the dash meter and my Voltmeter

That's a critical distinction. You should diconnect the battery and use a slow charge to bring it back. Make sure it holds a charge after a day or two, and leave it disconnected until you decide to run the Z again.

BTW- the battery in my Z is a couple of years old and still holds a charge for more than two weeks.

Default Battery charging question

Hello guys, I have a brand new battery in my Z, got it last summer and it died on me because I didn't start it in about 2 weeks. I have a Motor Master battery charger from Canadian tire but it is not working. I have it set on 12A fast charge and also on Conventional (at the same time). I've had it charging over night all the way to 5:58pm the next day, still wont start. Any clue on why this is happening, or any way you know how to get it going? Pls let me know. Thank You

Take it to a shop to have it load tested

Actually, take it back to the shop where you purchased it and have them load test it. That way, they can use the battery warranty to replace it if it's defective.
