First off, before you comment this, I'm a young noob. I know nothing about cars, and unfortunately that screwed me over.

I now have an 03 track ed 350z that had an oil leak, which led to a f***ed up engine that now needs to be replaced, but I have a few issues. I owe 8k on the car, and I have no idea what to do. Should I replace the engine, part it out, or sell as-is. I really don't know what to do and I can't keep making these super high payments for a paper weight..

Replacement engines aren't that expensive.

Super high payments? Z33s are pretty cheap now. how much did you buy the car for?

You owe $8K on a car that's worth maybe $3K w/o an engine - you're $5K in the hole. If you spend $3k on an engine, now you're at $11K on a $7K car, and you're $4K in the hole. Neither is a good position, and I'm just guessing that the car is in good condition. Your decision will depend on your ability to afford the repairs, afford the future payments, and how long you want to keep the car.

If you know nothing about cars, you likely cant swap an engine. Do you have access to the tools or know ppl that have experience with any of this stuff? If so, find a cheap rebuild kit or a used block and swap it over. Does your car have any mods that might be worth some cash?

Either way youre in the hole. Dump it or drive it, youre still in the hole.

you cant get your engine rebuilt for like $1500 i wouldnt have paid $8000 for an 03 i just bought an 07 touring on ebay for $5000 $800 shipping

Sometimes when your bleeding you just want someone to step in and help stop the bleeding not pore salt into the wounds,we'll here's my doctoral advise if this is your only driver you have no choice but to spend the money to get the engine repaired.Either find a reputable mechanic who knows a lot about these engines a 350Z specialist have you, or possibly spend the extra money to have a Nissan dealer look at it but at best find out exactly what happen to this engine before you do anything not having much experience with mechanics and cars can definitely land you further in the rabbit hole,do some research and learn all you can about these cars and the engines we have, will serve you well in the long run.Your looking to spend about 2,500-3,000 for a good refurbished engine maybe 1,500 to 2,000 to install since you still have to pay for it you might as well enjoy driving it, chalk this one up as experience and sometimes experience comes at a high and expensive price GL ,wishing you the best with this situation,sometimes you just have to bite the bullet!!!

I was in this position once.

Ride the bus and save your money.

Read and learn how to replace an engine.

Buy a guaranteed junk yard engine.

Put it in yourself.

or if you are not able to do this. . . . try not to default on the loan. If you do it might mess up your credit for a long time.

You probably will not be able to get a loan on another car, have the engine rebuilt or find a used low millage one. Keep the car forever. Its a good car. Fix it. Drive it.

Your last thread ("I'm pretty screwed...") gave you pretty much the same answers as this one. OP is clearly at a crossroads and stuck there. None of his options are very palatable, but you can't stay young and dumb forever. Make a few friends, learn how to do some of the work required and just be determined to make some progress every day. Might be helpful to mention where the Z is being stored currently and more details on the damage itself. Otherwise, there's not much more to say.

Where are you located in TX? You can likely find someone on here that would be willing to take a look and help diagnose and possibly work on your car.
