Default Recommended oil

Could anyone make a recommendation for a good oil? Right now I'm at around 7,000 miles & looking at my 2nd oil change. (The first I had done by the dealer) Thanks!

I USE MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC OIL 0W40. I THINK THE VEHICLE MANUAL SAYS TO USE 5W30

I also use Mobil 1 0W-40. I think Mobil 1 5W-30 and 10W-30 are too thin in high temperature. Mobil has a new 5W-40 oil out for "truck and suv" But it looks pretty promising.

I don't have the direct link for this (I might at work), but the segment is copied and pasted here by another user just recently. It's from the Maxima boards.

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....ecommended+oil

The guy on the Max board is some kind of Nissan expert or something.

Default Mobil 1

Just came back from Wal-Mart... They have three viscosities of Mobil 1 Syn...5w-30...10w-30...and 15w-50 for performance..best of all, they have the 5 quart jug reduced to $19.82 from $22-$23. I picked up the 15w-50...The bottle says it's good down to
-49 degrees F. I checked the 5w-30 and it was good down to -53 degrees F. Not much of a difference there, plus I live in a warm climate, it does not get anywhere near that. This will be the first time I've used a synthetic. I 've heard the good and bad. It's only going to be my second oil change. (approaching 6600 miles)

Use full synthetic, does not break down, and is man-made

Mobil 5-30 is the wtg.

I recommend M1 0W-40. To find out why, just check out the oil analysis results on several VQ35 engines done by members, as well as the general overall feedback of this oil's performance against other PAO's on the forum at: www.bobistheoilguy.com

another oil people seem to rave about is GC(German Castrol)0W-30. This is not the Castrol Syntec "fake Synthetic" that is marketed in the US. you can also read about it at bobistheoilguy.com

If you change your own oil will this affect a warranty claim?

Excellent oil, I would use it instead of M1 if I could actually find the stuff. It's pretty rare, as is the GC 0W-40.

5w-30w mobil will take you to 150k even running it hard a lot. I've done it with two preludes and nissan engines are as good or better.

rocketcityblue: The service manager at my dealer suggested that I keep receipts for oil and filters. These go a long way toward proving that oil changes occurred at the correct intervals.

Amsoil is real good too. Stick with the recommended viscousity of 5W30 unless you have a really good reason to change. More is not necessarily better! Higher viscousity will be slower to reach the cams and bearings at startup when most wear occurs. Higher viscousity will also reduce power.

Owners manual recommends 10w30 for temps between "0" degrees and up. Based on used oil analysis the Mobil 1 10w30 seems to be the best match for our VQ35DE engines. Plus you can find it anywhere. Also make sure you use a Nissan 15208-9E000 filter or a Mobil 105. But dr gallup the engine will go for longer than you would want to keep it even using Mobil 1 5w30 and 5K mile changes.
