Default How to torque axle bolts? Help

Hello everyone I'm changing the wheel bearing on my car but I just don't know how in the world to fit a torque wrench back there and torque the hub bolts or the bolts that connect the axle to the diff or brake caliper bolts. How did you guys fit a torque wrench back there?

It can be done- you need to be creative in how you angle a 1/2" torque wrench in underneath and work in small increments until you achieve the desired torque. I did it on jackstands, but a lift would have helped immensely.

Not cheap, but the flex-head, split-beam torque wrenches are worth their weight in gold for accessing those hard to reach fasteners.

A little hard to explain in words, but here goes...

For the axle-to-diff bolts, I used a thin wall socket for my torque wrench. To stop the axle from spinning while tightening the bolts, I fit a combination wrench onto one of the other bolts and "wedged" it to a secure point under the car at an angle.

It is a little tedious since you have to rotate the axle and move the combination wrench to the next bolt each time you tighten it, but it gets the job done.

I imagine you can wedge the same combination wrench onto one of the axle-diff bolts and then torque all the hub bolts after that since it would prevent it from spinning.
