Default Squealing noise

Greetings everyone

A few weeks ago an annoying squeal became present on my 05 Anniversary 350Z. When you aren't next to something it's not very noticeable but when you pull up next to another car or building it's pretty obnoxious. I can't really tell which side it's coming from either. My first thought was the belt since it's definitely something related to RPMs but I checked it out and it's fine. 10 Seconds after recording the video I dropped it into reverse and the noise instantly stopped. (Doesn't always stop) Not even two minutes later a car pulls up next to me and the same noise could be heard. I know for a fact it's nothing transmission related because the noise is for sure coming from the engine bay.

EDIT: Took the car in for an oil/filter change which resulted in the noise stopping.

Sounds like transmission whine. Have you changed the fluid recently? Any pattern to when the noise comes and goes? Like, does the whining always disappear if you put it in reverse, or drive?

The noise is 100% coming from the engine bay. It only happens at low speed/RPM or when stopped. Most of the time the noise continues when put in reverse

Could I get some more info on that please? I did a google search for "350z Dugan capacitor " and this was the first thing that popped up:
https://my350z.com/forum/audio-and-v...capacitor.html I couldn't find anything else even with different keywords

Even though that thread has nothing to do with a squealing noise, I unplugged my sub system anyway (because the noise started around the time I installed the subs) and it still makes the same noise.

thanks

RE: "The noise is 100% coming from the engine bay." The noise could easily be coming from the transmission.

With the transmission in neutral - is the noise worse when you push in the clutch pedal, or is it louder when you release the clutch pedal?

Looks like you have a service engine light on, have you checked the code?

The light is due to cats being removed after the noise started happening

Mine went out last week. Super annoying squeal anytime I was next to another car. Cheap fix, but a PITA to access.

Just go to any Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts near you and ask for it. They should have it in stock.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I took the car in for an oil/filter change and when I got it back the noise was gone. The oil was about a year old and was changed after ~2,900 miles.
