Default Rotor Wear

I just had my front pads replaced and the waer on the rotors was so bad they had to be surfaced. Anyone else had this problem? I squawed that I thought having to replace the pads at 20K miles was excessive, but having the have the rotors resurfaced was ridiculous. I asked for new rotors but no luck - yet!

Another suspension problem? Maybe because I still have my original badly feathered tires!! I am keeping them ion until the steel starts showing!

you are aware that they will not replace them after 12k miles right? My service tech also said they replaced the control arm too. Haven't heard anything about the rotor wear before, how hard have you been driving it?

I took my car in to have the front pads replaced at 25K miles. The dealership noticed that one rotor was gouged (probably by a rock) and the other was quite worn. Resurfacing either rotor would have taken it below min thickness, so I ended up getting new rotors.
It's rather alarming, considering that my Z is a daily driver, not a track car....

Mine is a daily driver. I guess I do drive it hard at times, but I try to use the engine to do a lot of the breaking to cut down on the noise caused by the feathered tires. I have never had a car before that required new breaks at less than 30K miles or had to have the rotors surfaced before 60K miles.

I am interested in knowing if this is a fluke or another design flaw.

Thumbs down

I just had my front brake pads replaced and the rotor's machined at 12,700 miles.

I do not drive my car that hard. It is my daily driver.

It is an automatic so I do not use the engine to slow the car down at all.

I have never owned a car/truck that has gone through brakes and tires this quickly!

This whole topic depends on your personal driving style, type of roads and traffic you drive in. I would expect about 30 to 35 thousand miles on my Z before I will need new rotors based off my past experinece with other cars i've had. If you drive in a lot of stop and go traffic you will wear them down quicker.

I on the other hand tend accelerate fast and brake hard, so I am going to blow through the rotors pretty fast. Have 25K miles on my car right now, and have already replaced the brake pads once.

I have 24K miles on mine. Yeah I had the same problem on my rotors too. My brake pads were half way done but my rotors were under min spec. Well anyz I had my dealer change two front rotors for free.
