Default '03 qith Feathering on the outside

I have an '03 (build date 12/02).

My 1st set of tires feathered under TSB .006(a) on the inside tread.

My 2nd set of tires feathered under TSB.006(b) on the outside tread.

Based on this - the TSB released on 4/12/04 uses the same alignment specs that are on TSB .006(b). Based on my situation - it would be reasonable for me to suspect that the problem will return for almost ALL 350z who have the 2mm TOE-IN adjustment performed. Mark the date folks - you will be seeing the feathering return, just in a different location. Just hope your LL window doesn't close on you first.

Just some feedback on the TSB. I had my Konis put on 4/09/04, my first alignment was 01/10/03 set by my dealer to 0.0 toein on the front tires on my new A/Ss. My Koni installer made a minor change to the alignment after he put on the shocks, centering the steering wheel only. 6800 miles and no feathering at the Koni install.

I will take my car to the dealer because I did find the beginnings of feathering at 1600 miles. I want an AFTER setting documented by my dealer and for them to monitor my tires for the entire 24 months. One thing, I don't have a problem now and will not allow a change to the new settings since I know the tires are fine at 0.0 front. If any changes are required in the future, I will insist they do not exceed 0.01 toein on the front because excessive toein caused my OE tires to begin to wear on the outside.

I'm with kbsig, when you get new tires from Nissan, the optimal original setting may work best and I would get it in writing it was discussed with your dealer before implementing the new TSB. This car is extremely sensitive to alignment changes and the soft OE tires make it twice as sensitive. I would pay the difference and put on different tires in the stock sizes, but thats your call.

Boomer--my opinion, use it or lose it, I don't care.

Replacing my first set of tires, because of feathering, after 17800 miles. The tires are being replaced under warranty by my dealer on Tuesday. The suspension was already adjusted on first inspection so hopefully it won't come back. If it does . . . I wouldn't hesitate using the lemon law and try and get a newer '04 model, maybe even a Roadster heh.

Hopefully it dosen't come to that.

I have a 2003 with with the same problem. I'm on my second set of tires. I did'nt really have a problem with it at first. I thought it was just because I was racing the car, but the front tires cupped real bad. I have Pilots now and don't want the same thing to happen again. I've heard those new alignments don't work either. Still love the car!!!!

We should also do the build date and whether or not you have feathering. Mine is an '03 with a build date 2/03 and no feathering (4k miles).

How many conv. Z have tire issues. Only reason I ask is that the conv. ride is smoother. And yet to have met a conv. owner with the problem. Maybe add it to the poll.

Hi, I had feathering show up at about 7K miles('03 Performance). I don't know the build date, but I bought it in July '03. I took it down to the dealer today and they gave me a new set of fronts and did an alignment job for free. No more tire roar in the cabin and the car rides so much smoother now. Based on other's responses, I will keep an eye on the wearing of the front tires.

Now that I had the problem fixed at a dealer and it is documented, is there anything I need to do now in case the problem comes back?

thanks

ditto Pablo. Just had my first set of tires replaced at 7,600 miles. My kid who is a GM Mechanic noticed the feathering much earlier, probably around 4,000 miles. The guy that compared this to the firestone/Ford situastion is dead wrong. This is a Nissan problem and they are replacing the tires free of charge. However, my concern, as many of you have stated is the new tires won't resolve the underlying problem.

My car is a 2003, purchased 4/2003.

HOWEVER after sept my warranty on the alighnment is up.

WHERE AS my tires went to say 15,000 miles before they started to get really bad .

after the TSB they lasted 4000 miles.

im seriosly looking at dropping this car why nissan does not fix this i dont know.

they know its a problem since they extended the WARRANTY ON ALIGHNMENTS.

BUT WILL they follow up after its up

I have an '03 Touring..Brickyard by the way!!, and have not taken mine in as yet. But I will tell you that the tire noise is about to drive (no pun) me crazy. I sure hope I get the new tires and the alignment and that it fixes the problem for good. The good news for all is that Nissan is extending the warranty for this problem for two extra years after service. I went to http://www.mycarstats.com/ and got all of the TSB and was surprised at the things that are wrong with my Z and I did not notice..check it out. My Z is serial number around 2000 so I am sure I have all the problems. But the sad thing is that I still love the car.

2003 Touring Brickyard
I really hope you all got the Nav system it is so cool!!!

oh yeah I almost forgot, I was wondering if you guys with the 19 and 20s are having the problem or if its only the stock wheels and tires doing this. buy the way I have a track model with the 18s, and you dont really here to many complaints from these guys. let me know if I am wrong.

The poll is fantastic. Thanks to its creaters and respondants.

It's probably not statistically significant (small number of responses + disgruntled people more likely to respond), but still very useful. Leads me to believe that Nissan's claims (problem is fixed in 2004s) may have some merit(?)

In any case, those of us on the fence b/c of this issue would really appreciate more responses (especially as Nissan is not subsidizing alignments & tire replacements for 2004s).

Thanks!

Default '04 roadster loud tires

I have an '04 roadster built in 6/03. My tire humming/vibration is progressively getting worse. I took it to the dealer and he said that there is a fix for the '03, but the problem was resolved for all '04 models, so my car doesn't qualify.

They drove it and said they didn't hear anything, but admitted that 3 other people had come in with the same complaint that week.

This pisses me off because there's obviously a problem --- the tires are loud as sh*t. What to do?

I have 04 touring roadster and I have about 2500 miles on it. I feel a little bit of pulling to one side and I recently put some 19" rims on it. Would Nissan realign my ride with no problem? Please advice.

03 Performance - Noticed feathering 2-3K miles. Side to side rotation at 7K and 12K did not help. Verrrry noisy! Now at 27K and replacing w/ different brand. Hopefully this helps.

Never bothered to check... just went in for an oil change, dealer noticed it and replaced them without any hassle.
