My "Service Engine Soon" lamp has come on for the fourth time on my 04 Enthusiast.

Each time they say it's an Evap leak, and there's something wrong with my fuel tank.

This last time, I filed a claim with Consumer Affairs.

I got two subs and amps installed in the trunk, and now the dealer is saying when that the installation is a reason, and now it's out of warranty.

What should I do? Please help

 

lol...tell the dealer to show you where a sub install causes those codes....seriously...make them look like dicks

You have a CAI? I actually got that light on my old tiburon when I messed up the CAI install. That little hose that conects to the intake pipe right before the throttle body....make sure that's attached tight. Reset the comp and that fixed MY problem. Only a suggestion until something better posted.

 

The check engine light is no big deal really. There is no possible way your sub installation could have caused that. An evap leak has to do with your fuel system, when the vehicles monitors detect a pressure leak in the fuel system it will set a code in the ecu. There is a fix, but only the dealer can fix. All they do is reprogram the ecu to widen the perimeter of evap. leak. It should be warrented up to 60,000 miles.

 

I just had auto zone check my Service Engine Light, and got this same EVAP code. Do you think that 60,000 mile warranty would still apply? I only have 39k.

 

Did you make sure your gas cap is tight? That's the most common cause.

 

Yup checked that one, and it still came on.

 

DZTZ33-Is it possible that when you installed the sub-woofers and amp that you might have drilled a small hole in the fuel tank? Just a thought.............

 

What's the exact code you're getting?

I have to admit that was my first though - either the tank or the vapor lines.

 

Yeah I saw how old it was but when I did a search in the technical forum, this was what came up that applied. I'll have to check on the code again. I tried to reset the ecu, but still getting it. I'll check back tomorrow.

 

Apparently it's two codes P0442 and P0456. Called the dealership and apparently the evap recall was already performed on my car by the previous owner. So not sure where to go from here.

 

The FSM lists these possible causes for P0442


Incorrect fuel tank vacuum relief valve

Incorrect fuel filler cap used

Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close.

Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap.

Leak is in line between intake manifold and
EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid
valve.

Foreign matter caught in EVAP canister vent
control valve.

EVAP canister or fuel tank leaks

EVAP purge line (pipe and rubber tube) leaks

EVAP purge line rubber tube bent

Loose or disconnected rubber tube

EVAP canister vent control valve and the circuit

EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid
valve and the circuit

Fuel tank temperature sensor

O-ring of EVAP canister vent control valve is
missing or damaged

EVAP canister is saturated with water

EVAP control system pressure sensor

Fuel level sensor and the circuit

Refueling EVAP vapor cut valve

ORVR system leaks


For P0456, it lists the same as above plus this one...

control solenoid valve

Basically, something's wrong and there's a bunch of possible causes.

 

So the million dollar question is how do i test to see what it is w/out replacing all the lines and evan control valve? Any pics of said valve? is in near the fuel pressure regulator? Everything is bone stock on this thing and it only has 39k on it.

 

Look at the top of this forum and there's a sticky thread about the Factory Service Manual. Follow the link and download the EC section (Engine Control). Look in it for the DTC codes you're getting and you'll see lots of details on what, where, why, etc.

I had these codes appear a while back after having my Catback exhaust installed. The dealership fixed it and said it was because the people who did my exhaust installation put the hoses back on incorrectly.

 

Just an update. I was unable to trouble shoot everything per the factory service manual, but I drove to the gas station w/ the SES light on still. Got gas, fired it up and bam no more light. So I don't know if re-tightening for the 3rd time did it or what but the light is gone and everything is good in the land of Z...lol. So I have no clue if the computer just automatically re-adjusted itself or if re-tightening the cap again fixed the problem or what.
