Default DerekGreen86's 350z Progress Thread

Here is my progress thread, it has lots of photos to show members my 350z and its build timeline since ownership in April 2012.

My car is a 2003 350z track model. When I bought it, it had just over 100km’s on it.

It was stock beside having two-toned burnt orange and black leather interior instead of the cloth seats which the track models usually came with.

Feedback is most definitely welcome and appreciated.

The first weekend that I brought the car home I was ready to install my Alpine 505 double din. I bought a dash-kit, wire harness and also went to a surplus store to gather supplies to build my first ported box. The box fits one 12’ Alpine Type R.

June 2012 - JWT intake filter
- Veilside replica front lip
- I also found a Invidia N1 Exhaust locally.

December 2012 - I parked the Z just before the snow came and drove a Toyota Echo in winter mode.

April 2013 - I picked up a used set of Varrstoen ES 1’s in Hyper Silver with General UHP tires.

Fronts were 19x10.5+15 245/35/19 and Rears 19x11+12 255/35/19.

(I also purchased a s2000 antenna off ebay)

May 2013 - I found a set of Volk GT-S wheels with carbon center caps and Toyo Proxies T1R tires.

I've always liked these wheels so I acted fast, bought them and then sold my Varrstoen ES1 set that same week.

The Volk GT-S wheels are 19x9.5+17 245/35/19 Fronts and the Rears are 19x10.5+18 275/35/19.

When I bought the wheels I also picked up a set of Authentic Rays red lugs.

July 2013 – I wanted something different so I sold the Veilside front lip.

- I ordered a replica C WEST front lip

- I ordered two piece V1 Sides.

August 2013

- Seibon TS HR 06+ Carbon Hood

I ordered a Seibon TS HR 06+ Carbon hood after giving up on finding a used one. It took about 3 weeks to arrive in Canada. It showed up without any damage but shipping was expensive.

The fitment is really good, it appears sturdy at higher speeds. I don't think I will need to install hoodpins/latches.

- I also had 20% tints installed.

September update.

- 06+ OEM Headlights

I picked up a set of 06 headlights for a steal from someone local. The seller converted some parts out from these into his new aftermarket Spyder headlights.

I am now looking for a set of 06 headlight harnesses so that I can have these complete and ready to put in for next spring.

In the future..

I would like to find a rear diffuser to finish off the kit, I like the TS style but I am concerned regarding its exhaust fitment.

Nice progress! The wheels really do make the car. She would look much better lower too imo. I'm not digging the c-west lip as much as the first one though.

Car looks good and nice pickup on the wheels. I would complete the c west kit to make everything flow better.

This.

I would do something about the box as well. Can definitely make that look much cleaner.

Nice work so far. I always like seeing the Brembo reflection distorted in a set of deeP polished wheel lips.

IMO, you need more aggressive side skirts to go with that cwest front lip, like the cwest sides as ***** suggested.

Just looked through the pics again and I still think you would do well to get the c-west sides, and even the c-west rears to round it out. Should look good, and no need to worry about interference with the exhaust like the TS style rear diffuser option.

Thanks for the feedback, I agree the wheels really do make the car and lower always looks better!

Thank you sir! I will definitely keep that in mind. I wanted something a little different then the usual lip combination, I still need to finish the rear off, who knows what might pop up on the market.

Thank you, I have been eyeing up the hood for a long time. I tried to find one used locally but nothing came up so I pulled the trigger and ordered one.

I am still keeping my options open but I do love that TS diffuser. I will likely find something over the winter. I appreciate the suggestions and feedback

I have a 03 track with hid, I found a set of 06+ lights locally which may just be considered shells.

They are missing a few parts. The seller converted these parts to his aftermarket 06+ spyder lights.
- 06+ headlight wire harness
- ballast
- igniter packs

What is the best approach to get these working properly? Convert the 03 harnesses or Source 06 harnesses?

1. I used my '03 wiring harness on the '06 headlight housing.
2. I cut a notch in my stock '03 HID bulb base to fit into the '06 housing.
3. I do not have high beams anymore as the '03 harness uses a separate connection for it's H7 high beam bulb.

In the end, if you use the '03 wiring harness on the '06 headlight you will not have a high beam function.

So, yet again, is the H7 high beam connection on the 03-05 harness a direct plug and play to the connector for the flapper on an 06+ housing? This is the only way an 03 harness will allow for high beam operation in an 06 housing!!!

If you have 06+ shells without the 06 harness and need to transfer your 03-05 style harness, you will have to source a plug from an 06+ style harness or cut off your H7 connector and attach wires to the solenoid directly.

When you convert, rather than powering the H7 bulb, the wires now power "on" the flapper and allow full light to pass through the projector, thus creating your "high beam". That's essentially why it's plug'n'play when you go from 03-05 HID to 06-08.

I'm not sure what the actual connector for the flapper looks like though. I would think you could just run wires from the flapper to your 8pin connector. It might not be pretty but it'll work.

Also the turn signal bulbs AND socket are different in 06-08 (7440 vs 3357A). The socket sizes are close but some people have noted fitment issues requiring modification when using their 03-05 sockets.

UPDATE:

What is the best approach to get my lights working properly?

Based on my findings I know I can convert the ballasts and igniter packs from the 03 lights.

This differs from the original DIY thread. Like the quoted members above have discussed, this situation involves more then the simple plug and play. In this case the harnesses are MISSING from the 06 lights.

Convert my 03 harnesses or Source 06 harnesses?

I believe its best to try sourcing a set of 06+ headlight harnesses before attempting to modify the 03 harnesses to work with the 06+ highbeam solenoid. There are differences between the two harnesses and you will also risk sealing issues on the turn sockets.

Any suggestions where to source or find parts to create the needed 06+ harnesses?

I have contacted Nissan and they will not sell the harnesses without buying the entire headlight assembly. I have also contacted Depo in hopes that they could source the harnesses which are used in their replacement lights but had no luck. I hope that this helps someone else in the same situation. Thanks for any feedback or suggestions.

Note: I eventually found a set of 06+ headlight harness after a month of looking, they came on Ebay for $55 shipped.

I also posted this @ https://my350z.com/forum/body-interi...through-4.html
