Default Dyno Day at the Beach

The Tidewater Z Car Club and Abacus Racing are sponsoring a dyno day here in Virginia Beach on Saturday June 25. Abacus will provide 3 pulls for $50 during the event and I'm trying to get some prizes for top pulls in a few categories. Abacus also has a tube frame GT car that they've just rebodied with as a 350Z that will be there for show.

Come out and join the fun.

If you cant dyno over 230 thats just weak!

The kinetix neeeeeeeds to be test on a finely tuned vehicle ( forced induction of course)

Abacus Racing is located at 1372 Baker Rd. Virginia Beach, VA 23455. See map below or mapquest address. That's just a few minutes off the Northampton Blvd. Exit of I-64.

They just put in an in-ground DynoJet with a/f probe. I don't know exact model number.

Upgrading

Some of the #'s i've seen bandied about the forum made me take the plunge. It should be pretty nice on the built motor, too

OK, The Dyno Day is coming up this Saturday. I'd like to get a head count of who's coming to let Abacus know how many of us to expect.

Here are more details...

Z Dyno Day

imagine i'll be modified because of the rear-end (even though that doesn't have anything to do with dynoing ) -- chalk me up for 3 runs (will stick to 3 following your PM about ECU reaction time)

thanks,

I just noticed that it is from 10am-4pm (10 TIL 4). I guess that means I'll be showing up and trying to get some of my Z friends to go with me. What time will most of you be there?

I'm planning on being there by 09:30 to start to set up. Jim Robinson has first dibs on the dyno, since he has to work.

I really could use a head count here guys. Please respond if you are coming, so I can let Abacus know how late it might go.

There are a few cars that are supposed to be there that will DEFINATELY be worth watching on the machine! Can you say hand built JDM crate motor?

Thanks!

Well, I have to say that the event was a success. We had a dozen cars on the dyno, and cars in every category except 240Z-280ZX Stock. Everyone who said they were going to be there did show up.

There were some pretty impressive numbers, including the discovery of one of those "Freak" stock motors - 10til4 pulled a 242 in bone stock configuration - lucky bastard! Roy Armstrong's Gold Medalian winning 78 280Z is always a beautiful site to see and this was it's first time on a dyno. Machupo showed off his new Kinetix Plenum - I combed my hair in the reflection. Harry Bradley's been working on his 77 280Z and gotten it up to 202 HP - very impressive. Eiji's 240Z w/JDM custom crate motor and 6 MaKuni carbs (yes, the same ones that come on hogs) was a beautiful site, and sounded like a monster on the machine, but he couldn't get it leaned out so he made ONLY 250 to the wheel. That config's got easily 300 RWHP when he finally gets the right set of jets on it. Todd Wagner showed off his mad Z skills by adjusting Fred Buoni's mechanical MAF sensor on the fly to excize some horrible knocking.

The guys at Abacus were first rate. They only took a short 30 minute break for lunch, and gave us a tour of their facility, including their restoration shop, their race shop (with GT1, GT2 and GT3 cars, pulled appart between events) and their top notch machine shop (they can do anything there except grind cranks.) Their head mechanic showed me a VQ block that they resleeved down to 3.0 liters for their next GT3 project.

10til4 took top numbers in 300ZX-350Z stock with his 'freak motor' 350Z
I managed to squeek by Todd Wagner by 4 ponies to take Modified - Todd's been tinkering I can see.
Johanna took the Sport Tuned Category by 6 HP over DriverDog's 90 300ZX TT
Machupo took the Ultra-Mod category by 3 horses over Eiji's ill-tuned crate motor 240Z

Most of us were able to stay the whole day, and we retired to Hooters afterward for a frost cold one and some wings.

Thanks to everyone who came out and dyno'd their cars. Thanks to Abacus Racing for giving us a killer deal at their facility, and thanks to the following sponsors for providing us with door prizes:
Advance Auto Parts
Outback Steak House
Tidewater Z Auto Service
Bap Geon Auto Parts
Cramer Tire

I took lots of pics and vids, but I'm running out of space, so I need to go find somewhere to host them.

roark,
Thanks again for a well put together event. Definitely let us know of any future happenings. I'd like to check out one of the autocross events sometime too. I wish I could have seen Eiji's Z on the dyno, that thing sounded like a beast!
