Local guys help
Ok i just got my nitrous kit installed which was quoted as an 8 hour job and in total it was 640 for the install. well they claim it "took them longer than expected" so now its a 16 hour job and i owe them another 700. If i already paid for the 8 hour job and its all done do i legally have to pay for there additional time they "worked" on my car? It sounds ridiculous to pay 1300 for INSTALLATION alone for a nitrous kit. Does anyone know the laws in maryland for a company to stand next to its quoted price?

Damn dude, that price is insane! If you were quoted an initial install price and they did labor outside of that without notifying you prior to doing so, I don't think you should be obligated to pay the additional costs.

I would think that if you had a quoted price, in a document and then it went beyond that unless you signed/saw another quote, you would not be obligated. Now, if they agreed to a time delivery and took longer they should honor you initial quote.
It is not like you can say after they have disassembled your engine, whops, it will take twice as long and if you say no, then what... they give you all the parts and push you out the door.... They made an estimate and should honor it.
If it is a good shop, they will honor it. I had my estimate and they overshot by a week. They ran into complications and it took longer, no big deal. They want you as a good customer and future references. This is a tight community and getting a bad name can cost you a lot of aftermarket business.

I think it is law (at least in VA) that if the work will exceed the estimate by more than 25% they are obligated to inform you and get your permission unless you specifically wave this right. I would ask them to do the right thing and honor the estimate since "finish it up tomorrow" isn't exactly notification that they're going to better than double the charges. That's bogus. If the won't budge, politely inform them that you will be filing a case with the Maryland BBB and seeking arbitration to recover the funds.

You can contact one of these offices to file a complaint as well. These are the "consumer protection" folks for the state of MD.

ok this is ridiculous altered atmosphere has had my car for a week now. They removed all aftermarket parts from my car and it still wont run right. Its been running in safe mode. They said to me that i need a new ECU now. This is disgusting, this will be three races ive missed because my car was unavailable. if i even had a thought that altered was going to fukc up my car like this i never would have taken it there.
