Thumbs down SEMA in PA, What were your thoughts?

I went yesterday and I'm just trying to see some other people's thoughts. The Alpine BMW was incredible, that thing was a work of art! I tried to talk to the manufactures, they were all just guys that worked at local shops and didn't know crap about the products, they just handed me their business card and asked me to call them on Monday for a discounted price on whatever part I was asking about. Some of the cars that were just there for the show were crap. One guy had amps mounted to a pine board in the trunk, another one looked like the paint was 20 years old and had never been waxed. In total I think I took 5 pictures. The PIAA guys and Elf crew were helpfull, the others that I talked to didn't know anything. I saw Kelly's car at the Turbonetics booth, I still love that car! No more April Fools Jokes Bro.....it wasn't funny! Maybe I expected too much.....I was more impressed at the AAM meet a few weeks ago. There was a "show only" 350z that was hot, and maybe 4 or 5 others but nothing I couldn't see at a local meet. I want to see functional cars and parts for the street. I don't care how many or what size monitors people can fit into the car that never hits the street. As for the girls, it was about 50/50, looked like they went to the local strip club and asked a few girls to come to the show with a few freinds, some of these girls were ROUGH. Most looked like they didn't want to be there. The location of the show was horrible, I know people had to mess up some body kits on the way in there. Everything was "under construction" and you had to be on the look out for huge pot holes everywhere. Am I off on any of this? I've never been to a SEMA show but I expected a lot more. Like I said, there were a few impressive "show cars" but not much else. Flame me if I'm wrong people, I really don't mind, maybe my expectations were to high.

I see where you're coming from. I was down their saturday mainly because my friend's car was in the show. I had a good time, there were definitely some nice cars there, but I agree with you that most of the cars you could have seen at a local show. I did hit up the Mcguire's booth though, because I'm a sucker for their products.

It's a relief to see I'm not the only one. I don't want to sound like I'm bashing the show, I just expected more. The funniest thing I had happen was a Hawks rep told me NOT to get their pads because of all of the complaints Z owners have. At least she was honest!

The rep told me that people with Z have been complaining to them recently, she wasn't to specific. She said the pads are not great on Z because our cars break closer to 50% front, 50% rear while most cars are more like an 70/30 split front and back. I don't have the pads but I've seen other post that they suck in colder weather if they are not hot. The first couple of times breaking you will get a different response than when they are heated up. I live in MD so in the winter they have a freezing temp to start out with and that is not what they were designed for. I'm sure the southern guys don't have these problems.

The show was really hit or miss. Some of the cars were REALLY cool (did anyone see the Carerra GT over in the "car show" section?), some of them were pure crap (I saw WAY more Honda Civics than I could handle). The Alpine BMW (I heard the number $700,000 spent on that car) was cool. I took hundreds of pics. I'll post them soon. In talking with Brad, the VP of Turbonetics, this is kind of a weird show for SEMA. At the "real" show in Las Vegas, it's not open to the general public, and under 16 is not allowed. This was way more lax. Some of the girls were HOT, some were, well.....not. I had one about break the front bumper of my car. I have a picture of her sitting on the bumper, and the whole thing is bowed inward.

Anyway, it was a cool weekend, the Turbonetics guys were awesome and took great care of me and the family, and it was cool to rep such a great product. Pics to follow shortly.

Oh, and glad you liked the car Murph!!!

Sounds like the typical show now. Hit or miss with the cars. Unfortunately, I think that the "SEMA" name gives people the perception that it will be like the Veas or Atlantic City show, but unfortunately they aren't. Even the Atlantic City show isn't Vegas, but I mean what is? SEMA in Vegas, is SEMA in Vegas, and it puts all others to shame. The shear size of that show is simply amazing.

Ya I can't wait to go back to Vegas...but I had a great time this weekend. The afterparty was fun? We didn't feel like gettin dressed n everything so we just skipped it and hung out around the city. Should've gone to Oasis =) The girl from there at the show was pretty good looking.

Too many vendors not present, Koni, Momo, Sparco, NOS, I-Forged, Eibach,
K&N, Injen, AEM, Turbo XS, Stoptech, APS, mopst of these guys were in Vegas, what gives, last year was MUCH bigger at Atlantic City.
Very disappointed, may be my last.
