Default Dealer Drama!

okay so here is my story and i'm kinda getting angry.

okay so Sunday night i go down to the beach. i park on this street with about 40 other cars...walk back and bam...car is gone. okay so it got towed. which i can handle but the street i was on had no sign because it was knocked over 2 nights before. so i get my car back that night for $125. whopedy doo

on the drive home my parents who came to take me there notice my tail lights are no longer working. 2 more people stop me that night to tell me.

now this is Monday and me and my dad have taken apart all the stuff lights check out. wires back that we can see look good...check the fuse behind the battery and its blown...so we replace it, but it blows again. so now we look again and all that stuff still nothing.

so Tuesday i decide and take my car to drop it off at my local dealer who has always been awesome to me for everything (hall nissan) my guy is super cool and i tell him what happened, he said if it looks like the tow truck cut a wire he would document it. for 90$ to look at it

now its Wendsay and my dealer calls. they cant find the issue. so now he tells me that it has gone from 90$ to 240$ for them to look more detailed into the issue. but it will also add $$ to fix the issue when they find it.

so now this little trip to the beach has cost me 125$ for the tow and 240$ for them to look at the issue...+ what ever it is fix it. so now i'm starting to get angry about the whole thing. and if it comes back that it happened from the tow truck, small claims court here i come.

so the way i feel right now is if i paid 90$ for them to look at the issue, i should not have to pay more for them to keep looking!

I'll bet you $90 they already know what it is and that's just what they are telling you...they gotta get paid somehow.

Did all of the other lights work? parking, back-up, front, side, and rear window? Also, is it an auto or manual?

I wouldnt pay more than the 90 bucks you agreed too. Unless you verbally gave them permission to dig deeper for an additional charge or signed a new estimate they cant charge you more than 10 or 15% more than the original estimate. If they did put any additional labor into investigating it they have to eat those costs unless you authorized anything further. Dont bend over on that one.

^ 1+, if you gave no authorization to further inspect, they cannot charge you.

90$(Why's the dollar sign after the number anyway?) to find out what's wrong with a LIGHT?!?!??!??!! Pull the car into McDonald's drive way and Anh(The worst mechanical person I've met so far) will figure it for you.

Back to the dealership... they're straight up trying to rip you off! Complain and complain and take the car to a local mom and pop shop to figure out what's going on.

+1 on the local mom and pop shop. The truck must have pinched / shorted a wire causing the fuse to blow...

I would also call the county take a pic of the downed sign and request your money back for the tow!

Thats a good idea as well. If the sign was destroyed the county should be responsible for your tow. Just depends on how much of a hassle you feel like going through for 125 bucks.

soo got my car back....here is the issue...

about 3 weeks ago me and my father put in a new stereo. when we went to find a ground for the wires we could not find one for the life of us. then we did, used our volt meeter checked it all out seamed good. well the wire we grounded it to was the wire to light up the stereo when you turn the lights on...

needless to say when the lights are set to 'OFF' it will read out as a grounded wire. when the lights are 'ON' it will blow your fuse.

i dont know why it took so long for it to happen or if i just never noticed it because i did not drive at night for a while. but that is my issue.

when i went back to my dealer and talked with the tech before i decided to have them dig deeper i told him i just had done the stereo. so thats what he checked next. and because he then found it so quickly the next day they only charged me for the oringal 90$ fee not the 240$ so now i grounded it CORRECTLY! and everything is good to go. i cant believe it was something this simple.
