The same reason why my car was a total loss. The dealer wanted about ~6K to replace the wiring harness, add that to the damage to the exterior, and it was game over. When USAA makes an offer, make sure you read it over. Chances are the first amount they try to come back to you with is going to **** you off. I had an 03 with 38K miles and they tried to offer me 14K for it. I read over the paperwork and they quoted the mileage at 83K instead of 38K. When I found out what they did their second offer was just slightly over 20K. Big difference.

Police are rarely proactive and could care less about property. They're more reactive. There are task forces & detectives but unless they're investigating thieves stealing car parts these thieves basically got away with this crap! Most thieves are never caught after the fact.

yeah.. totaled for that? I am amazed they aren't wanting to fix it, seems like it would cheaper for them.

I hope you get paid out decently enough and are equally happy with your next car.

as a side note, my 2 way pager 1 mile alarm setup was installed last night and I feel much safer. I'd get one for your next ride.

man so sorry about this. What terrible news but unfortunately police will probably be of no help at all.

I will spend my money on a good alarm system before I mod anything else on the car.

Sorry to hear man. Just a FYI for you guys out there. As I first posted, I had my car rifled through Monday. Well last night before I went to bed, I noticed a car drive down and up my street w/ no lights on. Thought it was odd so I ran down to get in my car to follow.

SHort version of the story: He turned on lights when he saw me, then he drove into a dead end nook, turned lights off. Though it was odd so I followed, got plate # can called cops. I guess he got scared and left, but I tailed him and he eventually came back to my neighborhood! There was a 2nd car also hiding out too. My guess is they were either waiting for others to come, or waiting till later (it was only 1AM), or they already had people walking around the hood checking for unlocked doors, etc.

I guess they got antsy caus I was following them around and waiting around for them. One car zooms off across the street (to another dead end) while the other turns onto the main rd. Cops come not too much longer and said they stopped the guy who ended up on the dead end and are going after the 2nd car.

The end result was sucky though. Since they didnt actually do anything wrong, they couldnt hold them for anything. I prolly just prevented a night of theivery in my hood. But just wanted everyone out there to be aware of these crooks! Cars driving around with their lights off should be reported immediately! Mont. COunty Non-Emergency Line is 301-279-8000.

The 1st car was a newer Red Mitsu Lancer MD Tags 8EE Y67. I dont remember the tags of the 2nd car, It was a light gray Suburban.

It's probably a better idea to call the cops, then let them be. Just watch your own ride. The cops probably would have caught them in the act molesting someone elses car.

Or lob some tennis ball bombs at them from a hidden throwing location. Haha

Sorry to put it like this jetspank, but since WHEN is Aspen Hill and Veirs Mill safe???

My cousin lives there with my uncle, and about 2 months ago he got his Eclipse Spyder open up with a knife and emptied of everything in front of his house. Yeah, I know that would have been faster that what they did to you, the problem is, they also opened up and robbed two more cars that very same night.

They were actually three cars in a row.

Also, my uncle had to go and jump on a bus the other night because he had 2 black males following him for a while. And no, they were not going in the same direction since my uncle walked in a circle to check if that was a coincidence.

That area is NOT safe at all, good for you if you get a 370z, but get a lowjack alarm or similar.

Sorry about your loss

I know.

But, I've lived here for more than 20 years, and this is the first time I've been violated.

And dam, what a violation!

Anyway, I bought a black VW CC, which I didn't even know was a cool candidate for modding. The latest issue of Eurotuner has it on the cover, with a gigantic bunch of ideas for mods inside.

I'll post pictures someday, after I get some of this going.

However, it is emphatically NOT as cool as my Z. No way. I will NEVER get over losing that car.

I know that sounds all drama and ****, but it's also true.

I loved that car, and I will miss it for a very long time.

Yeah talking about getting stripped out and being followed. I've been followed twice by the same car, and I was only able to caught the first 3 digits of the license plate because the second time I went pass him when I recognized the car but I wasnt sure, then he started to follow me. The first night it was really late and I basically did a circle on my block just to make sure he was following me. There is a military base so I headed there and told the guard and he let me thru just to make a u turn and come back out. I'm not parking my car where I used to, now I park somewhere safe, which Im not telling here, and also Im getting a aftermarket alarm this week. I would hate to wake up one morning and see my car like yours man. Sorry about your car, I almost teared one up when I saw it. I just thought about my car when I saw yours. Best of luck!

Next time call the cops and tell them a place where you are going so they can be there waiting or something.

Better to know who the hell is following you than to just avoid it.
