Scott I would suggest trying one event before you over think it. I am planning on trying one out this spring, if I like it (as I expect I will considering I loved summit point carting) I will probably pick up a spec miata that someone has already taken the hit on, and keep the vette for drag racing and street stuff.

I also agree that running an fi Z is a terrible idea, heat and oil starvation kill vq's, even N/A they run hot. With FI you are rolling the dice.
I would rather it die on the track then sitting in the garage, There is no point in having a 500+ HP car when all I do with it is drive the speed limit on the street and let it sit the rest of the time. I mean Worst case I take a hit and resell what I can. Its paid off and so are my other cars. If I go to resell it, it would take forever and I would end up taking around a $6000 hit as it sits right now. I could drag it but I see that getting old, I think I would have fun with it for about a season then be bored of dragging the car. I will defiantly get it out on the strip before it explodes and dies, Also I dont plan on driving it on anything but spring pressure till I sharpen my skills, so who knows when that will be.

I clearly understand the risks and this is something I want to try, of course I am not going to go stock up on anything until after I decide the cost vs enjoyment is good.

Thanks for all the input, Ill let you know when I go out to the track so you guys can come watch me blow up the car. :P

That car will die within 3 track days. Calling it now.

Regardless of street driving, drag or HPDE, that thing wont stay in one piece one season when driven hard. Not hating Scott, not wishing it happens, but these cars are drive em once in a while and put em away once you build them.

Any sort of racing = you just took 1/2 the life out of it. Keep in mind my built setups went 9000 miles (490-580whp) and 3000 miles (600-700whp) when ragged like a **** before an engine failure, top of the line parts, never skimp maintenance and good tunes.

You will get way more than 4 track events out of a set of R888's.

Fawk I need to sell my car man. It saddens to me know I could spend thousands to get it back in top shape, only to see it fail before even 1 summer.

Wish I had a C6 Z06. H/C/bolt ons/tune/gears, low 10's NA. FMFL.

need to find someone to buy it at $20k

Problem is I have no stock parts so I'd be left with a shell of a car.

Used, low mileage C6 Z06's are very reasonable in price now a days. Chriswell had a new (2012) grand sport on the lot for only 44k. I was tempted. LS3 makes big power as well...

Alberto, OT question what did bottlefedz aka Ray end up selling his car for? At his asking price he was giving it away...

I never saw his car run but that thing was the ultimate sleeper...

No idea what he sold it for or to who.

New owner hasn't made any waves locally.

I always envied you guys with built motors, especially on a run back from the one time my car made it out to the Shenandoah Valley. Russ, PolarBear and me convoyed back and even with my foot to the floor it was hard keeping pace. But I bought my Z to enjoy for a while, it'll kill me to spend all that $$$ and blow my engine.

Sadly these cars are worth so little now

I'd find a stock motor to drop in and sell yor car for the kbb and sell the motor.

Any idea what your motor would be worth as a long block?

post up an ad w/ all your parts. Locals only - swap stock pieces + cash on top.
I think you'd enjoy a C6 10x better, then we can all finally hit up some backroads.

R888 I could probably get 4 HPDE events out of a set. So not to worried about that cost. Break Pads will go quick but the StopTechs seem to run about $100 a set. Oil can get pricy but I would probably do that every other event. Alignments can get pricey, but I would need that done on any car. Break Lines are decently expensive but I dont know how much those run.

Figure 1300 for tires + $200 for break pads + $200 for oil + $250 for fuel + $1000 for events + $300 for alignments. Only thing the Z might go through more of is Tires then the STi, so figure thats a small difference in the end. My guess for 4 events a year is around $3500

I do not know if you would need to replace the brake lines, but I would definitely invest on braided lines.

Everybody is forgetting about transmission and differential oil changes? I do them after every season.

In my opinion, you should try doing Autocross first... Go with Mike or somebody else with experience and do a couple of events to get used to the car you choose, traction, the lines, the do's and don'ts, etc......

After that, go to HPDE events and pass the 3 or 4 levels they have. Then, from there, you can decide if you want to do wheel to wheel racing (which you will need the license and caged car for) or just speed attacks.

Getting into your Z from the get go and going to the track is asking for trouble imho. Even with an instructor.

I wouldn't get into the car game even if I had a buyer where I wanted.

I'd get a faster bike and go back to doing track days.

Sell it man I'm sure you would love a C6 Z06. Those cars are phenomenal on the track and maintenance is pretty low. With the LS7 you can make big power N/A.

It seems like the bikes have the most track days scheduled at summit point. I go there practically every Sunday and the bikes are there most of the time. The other times are the SCCA guys and other groups.

One you go full lean at 100mph dragging peg, speeding around corners in a car seems weak fawking sauce. Summit turn 3 owned me, I can tell you what the gravel tastes like...

Alberto I have a feeling once you bring your car back out and really get on it, you will forget all about a Z06 (barring any issues of course). however 10's N/A + handling is nice.

I can't comment on bikes, or tracking bikes, sounds pretty fun/ intense, and I am sure its crazy at its limit, I just like cars too much to find out ha(not just because of performance, I just like owning/driving/seeing cars) A nice car always catches my eye
