[NSFW] Mid-A Epic Random-ness: Third Encounter
For once that wasn't really pointed at you. In general people don't want to do anything they feel has a risk. So they sit on the sofa and play video games or watch tv.
Dave says he is game to come out riding with us after his pool thingy in may. It would be awesome to pop both of your riding cherries at the same time. Think you can make it happen?

We'll see, depends how many nickels I have in the bank I suppose?

Jeff you can get a good workout without riding a mtn bike, I am with clay. I would probably go by my self on less crazy trails before I would want to go out with you guys. The probability with getting hurt with you guys seems pretty high. Or I could just do something else besides riding.
Scott that is silly. Why you would want to ride alone instead of guys who know what's up and know the trail system is beyond me. Everyone ultimately goes at their own pace.
Riding alone you won't push nearly as hard even on climbs its extremely psychological. I'd rather crash with a group than alone too.

Alberto you dont need to push super hard to have fun mtn biking, I have done it before with the boy scouts when I was younger, didnt push super hard at any point like you guys and I still had fun. Riding alone can be dangerous but you can learn a trail and be safe at the same time just dont go crazy fast on your first run or even walk the course prior to hitting it up. With more people like you / dan / jeff / barny the temptation to do something stupid would be higher and thats why people keep getting hurt. I am not saying that is impossible to have a safe fun ride with you guys but the temptation is much greater.

yea as mentioned you definitely want to go with a group to start out. Everyone rides at their own pace, slower guys ride in the back, it's a no pressure atmosphere.
Also depending on where you are riding, you want to go with someone that knows the trails. Plus you will definitely ***** out on the uphill if you ride alone, and will progress very slowly.
The probability of getting hurt riding with them is no higher than riding alone honestly. And in the rare event you get hurt you definitely want at east 1 person around. Also remember Only 2 guys have gotten hurt in hundreds of miles of riding (hell I did over 100 miles before I fell) and that was one one specific trail out of hundreds of others.
I have biked alone quite a bit, both back in the day on my old Gary fisher, and earlier this year on my Trek, and the group dynamic is way more fun
I think a lot of you guys are hesitant to ride because you think you will be left behind by the group or pressured to try something you are not familiar with, and that is simply not the case. No one in the group pushes anyone because they are all riding at different paces.

Jeff and Zains unfortunate injury both occurred on slower than normal runs down a particular trail.
I can honestly say Ive only eaten dirt once by riding beyond my limits-that happened to be my first and only serious crash and it happened my first month riding. And Ive been down easily 30x in 7-8 months.
Im laughing at the mental images you guys prolly have of our rides that nobody else wants to come out and try it.
Whatever floats your boat...

It is what it is, no point in discussing it further unless you guys actually get bikes, then you can decide based off your own experiences

Running
Playing football soccer basket ball tennis
Martial arts
Paint ball
Hiking
Of those things, how many does the mid a do as a group?
As of right now Kyle played paint ball once
Ethan use to play bball guessing that will pickup in the summer
And we ride bikes.
The fun with riding bikes is that it's a great group, the group is what makes it.
The only time I hear anything from anyone is when we are going up a hill that takes great cardio and towards the end people will normally yell positive things like you can do it, don't stop, push hard! It's no different then when you are lifting weights and a spotter is telling you to do one last rep.
As far as down hill goes, no one says ****, see you at the bottom, we normally space it out so the first person goes then the next guy 15-20 seconds later and the fastest go first, slower last.
We chill at the bottom of the hills. For the most part there's not a lot of places where you will get messed up other then the place me and zain went down. No one was around me when i went down, in fact they asked a hiker if they saw anyone go down since I didn't show up at the bottom.
Oddly enough, if I had been hauling *** behind Alberto I would have most likely taken his riding line and wouldn't have crashed.
Riding alone really isn't a good idea, you'll just get lost lol
The hardest part is up the hills, and it's nice having people help set the pace so you don't take a break every 50 feet. Down hill is where it's dangerous and that is only if you allow it to be.
Chances are you will wreck at least once per ride. And by wreck I mean fall over around 0-2mph when you hit failure going up a hill. You'll stop, put your foot down, step in soft ground/mud and roll over in a oops kind of way.
This is something that people are doing almost every week, from Dan, Charles, Alberto, Jeffrey, me, barny shawna... What else does this forum do that brings that many people together on a regular basis?
Thursday nights in Rockville? That's about it.

I will get a MTN Bike soon enough between you guys and my friends going all the time I will be purchasing one soon enough, as of right now I loved the adrenaline rush (wish I am sure is the same for MTN biking) I got from playing PB and would like to pursue that like I once did when I was younger, being in a battle type scenario is a lot of fun while getting a great workout without even realizing it.
