Gyms are the only business that can come anywhere close to a restaurant when it comes to risky business. They might even be more risky now, I haven't seen the numbers lately.

The gym down the street from me changed hands 3 times? Now it's being gutted out and made into something else. Maybe another gym?

Gym across the street from where I work has also changed over a handful of times. They open and close every other year it seems.

I'm always trying to take in as much info as I can about why businesses fail. It would be awesome if you could post or pm me your thoughts on why you feel the owners are screwing it up and how you would do things differently.

1. The owners are more content with "acting" like owners rather than "being" owners. Kind of like the guy who breaks his neck to get a Benz or BMW but can only afford the payments and not the upkeep. They won't invest in the gym [new equipment, supplies, cleanliness] but steadily push us to sell memberships.

2. Management has no real training on how to manage. It was suggested that some of them take some classes when they bought out the gym from the corporate company and became private owners. They balked at this notion and now it's becoming more apparent they have no idea what they're doing. Case in point, you have a full staff of sales and personal trainers who don't know if they'll have jobs in a few months and guess who showed up to tell them this? The gym "secretary" who took notes on a meeting that devolved into a giant *****/complaining session.

3. Being disrespectful to customers/poor customer service. If you want to cancel a membership only one of three people can do this. Now, try and find one of them or catch them on the phone during business hours.
I've seen cussing matches between management and clients trying to break contracts. Got pretty ugly too.

4. Failure to observe trends or keep up with the times. How easy is it to see what's hot as far as fitness classes and then offer those classes to your members? We did begin offering boot camp classes, but there are a plethora of other things we could be doing and just simply aren't. Because management doesn't take the time to learn or seem willing to want to pay for qualified instructors.

I'm thinking about checking out Crofton and seeing what they have to offer. One thing I've heard they've got better 'eye candy' walking around. Anyone want to chime in?

Dave's pretty hot. You could eye him as he squats.

Why not that 24 hour gym in Columbia?

I spent the majority of the night on Yelp looking at comments and Lifetime in Columbia got terrible reviews, plus it's $80-100 a month. Is there another place in Columbia you're talking about?

<----- engaged as of this weekend

I'm super busy with work man. I truly underestimated how crazy establishing the business would be. I work all hours of the day and night even weekends.

I have no time for car, guns, nothing. Barely been on my motorcycle in the past month. I'm making time to MTB because it's for my "health" and enjoying every night I can even be home for dinner with my girl.

Ups and downs of running a business.

You'll get everything in place and have lots of free time and 2-3 months later half your staff turns to **** or quits and it starts over again.

Yeah it all goes in waves.

Right now things are on the verge of calming down. Been home since 10am today. Nice to relax.

Waiting patiently for the GP! Gonna be a helluva weekend.

You still have to register the adapter. If im paying the tax stamp you better believe it will be on a legit can I can see my sights over not some redneck solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

That is what I was thinking when looking at the video.

Must be pretty difficult to actually aim correctly.

For d!cking around I guess it doesn't matter.

Just seems stupid to pay $200 TS on a $75 adapter.

Now that I see it though, wouldn't mind "finding" an adapter for SHTF cases lol

Would be super easy to do.
