Thumbs down I have a problem.....

OK. So I get a call this week from a dealership that I had went thru to have my body kit painted. It appears that they are not going to follow thru with what they told me I'll explain....

I Rented a car from this dealership for a few days, in the understanding that I would drop off my car at the dealerships body shop, and they would install the body kit.

I was told it should only take about 2 days. Well after a few days of calling to check the status the dealership told me that noone in the body hsop wanted to risk installing the body kit. I said "Fine, but that means I rented this car for no reason." The dealership agreed and told me that they would not charge me for the rental car.. Makes sence,... since I had to install the kit with the help of a friend. I basically dropped my car off at their body shop for a few days for no reason.

So.. a few days ago I recieved a call from the dealerships rental department. It appears that the bodyshopp manager has not 'approved' of the shop paying the rental car charges, and that I am responcible for the fee's.

Did I mention to you that I "rented" the car in MAY of this year! They are just now calling me on this? This is crazy. Not good.

I mean .. they are WAY past 120 days.. I seem to remember something about 120 days being a limit for certain things.

Besides that, the representitve of the dealership TOLD me that I would not be charged for renting a car that I never needed to rent in the first place. ... GRRR..

Tomorrow I am going to call the bodyshop manager and ask him what the hell is going on.

The charge that I 'owe' is only about $100.00. To me its not the money.. its the principle. I was told that I did not need to pay for a rental car that I did not need in the end.

My question to you is... do I believe I have an argument... What do you say?

Mike that sucks... Trying to stick you with a charge 4 months later... I say there's no way you pay. You are in the right.

See my post in the general forum. There's a definite strategy to dealing with dealers when it comes to this kind of stuff. The basic concept is "go as high up the food chain as you can, as fast as you can." When you hit some guy who feels like he's been 'escalated to', he'll be more likely to 'flex his muscle' to show you that you came to the right guy. It's all about the Ego. Especially in a case like this where you clearly have been wronged by the dealer. The original guy you worked with will probably be in 'save face' mode, and thus resistant to accomodate you because it looks like backing down.

My 0.02.

I would say of course you have an argument. Go see whoever it was that told you that they would take care of the rental fee and tell them to pay for it. If they wont, tell them you will post bad stuff about them on all kinds of forums lol. They should be grateful that that is all they have to pay. They kept your car for a couple days and YOU had to call to find out they woudln't do the work they said they would. I agree with you

I agree.. Next time I will get it in writing.. and I am glad that they did not try to install the body and mess it up.. I just wish that they would have told me that BEFORE I rented a car from them and dropped off mine.
