No offense to Z's or anything...but I would chalk this up to a bad driver on the part of the Bullitt. I've beaten a Z in a GS400 but hung neck and neck with a Bulliitt. So taking one by 2.5-3 car lengths seems like a stretch.
HAHAHAHA your a funny man
. i used to take out 400 GS's with my auto 3.5 maxima, and iv raced a GS430 in my Z and all i can say was the GS driver wasnt too happy with the end results. he was modded too i believe. i could see an exhuast and when i talked to the guy he said something about other mods but i stopped paying attention cause he was just trying to defend himself in a way. anyways dont let me rain on your victory. Nice Kill. just be carefull someone with a 6speed might race you.

I have an idea... Lets stop all this squabbling and you 350Z owners come meet us Bullitt owners at the track, ALL OF US, and we will run um'.... Are there any tracks in Kansas, middle of the USA and all should be a fair meeting point. Show of hands?
I am in NY, anyone from this area with a 350Z come see me... we will end this fued once and for all.... AMERICAN MUSCLE BABY!!!!!

i used to drive a 99 corolla, that sucked, but since i have a 5AT redline, has made a big big diffrence.
when using the manual sports shift which comes in an auto, what RPM'S should i change gears to get the best results.

well see the problem with your plan is that im not there. any other person can come out and have there *** handed to them. there is a big difference between driving a car and knowing how to drive it ( under race circumstances.) anyways. there is no way this dabate could ever be put to rest just like all other debates. so like i said, take it for what it is, and keep your **** talking to a minimum. this is a place to share encounters and they can sway any which way.

dude i was just busting your chops..i like the Z, i like the Stang, i don't really care which one is faster..doesn't really matter to me..
My saleen is slow..looks good but not very fast..... i need to trade it in...

For the record, my Stock Z dynod at 241HP. That is pretty average from what I have seen. I am hoping to reach 260 after my exhaust and intake are installed.
Why does everyone try to compare the Mustang and 350Z in the 1/4? Take the Z's weakest area against the stang's strongest area?
Put the 2 cars on the Track (non 1/4) and I think you will see the Z win every time VS a stock Billet or Mach1. Run stoplight races, or 1/4 mile, and the Z might win 2 of 5 against the same competition.
Where the stang is built for straight line performance the Z is a better all-around performer. Now the 03 Cobra is a different story. I don't want to race that thing on any shape of pavement.
Does anyone disagree?

The drag talk is fun, and nice to know, but sometimes people take this too personal.

Listen, I really do like the new Z. HOWEVER- I would have to see it to believe it about the Z beating the 911 Targa on a road course!
The Bullitt is built for more than straight line racing. Just drive one once and you'll see what I mean. I have driven MANY cars (including the new Z) and the Buliitt definately outperforms them all. The only car that I can say has a better mix of performance and cost is the M3. The image of the Mustang you're used to is going to change after driving the Bullitt just once. No more loose rear ends in a tight turn, and handling is tight as hell. Just remember the Bullitt was built with this style of driving in mind, and balances Ample torque and HP with crisp road manners. Just drive one, and you'll see that it's not like your typical Mustang.
The fact is, we all have nice cars- every Chevy, Ford, Nissan, Pontiac, Blah Blah Blah on this board- and we all think our cars are better than evryone elses. Each one of these cars have thier merits. I like the Bullit because it has *****. The Z is nice because it's more refined, but also has some ***** too. So, to each his own, I guess.
That being said, if any of you want to test my Bullitt and my driving skills, just let me know- jrandall@sunterra.com Orlando, Florida- we'll meet at Bithlo (Speed World) and see how our cars do!
(BTW, this is not me but this is a vid of a Bullitt doing 140 around a turn)

I didn't beat the 911, it was in R&T driven by a former LeMans winner on the EXACT same day, driver, track, and conditions as the Z was. Take that for what its worth, I happen to think it is worth a lot.

There's a little more than that....
The 2001 Bullitt Mustang's features are based on the movie car and include: Unique side scoops, 17-inch Bullitt-style aluminum wheels and a lowered suspension. The C-pillars and quarter panel molding are modified to create a unique look Rocker panel moldings enhance the car's ground-hugging appearance and a bold, brushed aluminum fuel filler door is prominently placed on the quarter panel. Bullitt badging and polished rolled tailpipe tips complete the picture.
The heart of Bullitt GT is a 4.6L SOHC V8 - modified to improve airflow and power output with twin 57 mm bore throttle body, cast aluminum intake manifold, and optimized alternator and pump pulley ratios. High flow mufflers increase the power but more importantly create that aggressive sound, especially on trailing throttle. All this produces at least 270 horsepower and significantly more torque than the Mustang GT engine.
Even if you're not in San Francisco, a drive in your neighborhood will evoke memories and produce that McQueen cool aura; at least in your mental meanderings.
The vehicle is lowered to generate firmer, better-balanced ride and improved handling. The performance-handling package also includes re-valved Tokico struts and shocks; unique stabilizer bars (front and rear) and frame rail connectors. Thirteen-inch Brembo front rotors and performance calipers provide excellent stopping, and the capable red calipers are evident through the recreated American Racing style alloy wheels.
"Bullitt is quick off the line, handles great, stops fast and shifts easily with improved pedal relationship," says Art Hyde, Mustang chief program engineer. "This is the best performing GT we have ever produced."
There will be a limited production of about 6,500 Mustang Bullitt GTs built on the same line of the Dearborn Assembly Plant that produces the V6, GT and Cobra Mustangs. Each Bullitt will come with a unique serialized identification label from the factory to ensure exclusivity and collectibility.
Says Ford Division President, Jim O'Connor. "Bullitt has elevated the GT into an unforgettable car that enhances Ford's performance reputation and builds on Mustang's performance tradition that began with vehicles like the Mach 1, Boss 302 and the 428 Cobra Jet."
The only disconnect is that besides the Dark Highland Green from the movie, marketers insisted that the Bullitt also be available in True Blue and Black. C'mon guys; racing Ferraris are red . . . Grand Prix Mercedes are Silver . . . Steve drove a GREEN car!
While other companies have had to recreate their discontinued heritage cars, the Mustang has been in constant production. Sure, they have strayed on occasion, with notable exceptions in the styling and power train areas, but they keep coming back to concept of the original pony car (I often wonder how GM and Chrysler felt about their cars being classified as pony cars, with the obvious homage to Mustang!) The spirit is kept alive in all current Mustangs with styling cues like the classic long hood and short deck; a prominent hood scoop; enlarged, sculptured side scoops with a bold triangular shape; and the vehicle's signature tri-bar tail lamps.
I wonder how Frank Bullitt would have handled that.

why is everyone posting facts about the Bullit..? who cares! this thread has turned from a 350Z beating a Bullit on the street to a thread of Bullit owners trying to sell it to the 350Z community.. can't we all just get along? both cars are nice and of course the owners of their respective cars are going to favor them or else they wouldnt be driving them.
instead of racing by times posted in magazine articles race on tracks.. and settle it.. hopefully by now everyone who owns a 350Z no knows exactly what comes on a Bullit,Saleen,Cobra,GT,and anyother trim model of mustang i might have missed.. but my point.. WHO CARES!
a race is a race.. straight line, turns whatever.. theres always gonna be a number of factors in determining outcome.. not just what magazines say..
