Default ANOTHER 350z vs. LS1 story

Driving home from Las Colinas yesterday I met up with a red 2000 Firebird (w/ ram air). Rolling about 75-80 mph I smiled and gave the driver the thumbs up and said "cool car". He smiled and returned the compliment. He revved like he wanted to run. (I am alone in the car with 1/4 of gas and he has about 3 or 4 people in his car.) It was a fairly warm 90 degrees and humid.

I shook my head "no" and declined. (Thanks to the ubiquitous presence of the "LT1 moderators" on this site, I knew that I was over matched.) He smiled and kept on offering. I downshifted to 4th and watched him run away from me at a full gallop

We slowed down and exchanged more pleasantries when he revved again. We smiled and went. This time it was at about 60. I downshifted to 3rd and he, apparently WOT, did not run away QUITE so quickly. But he did pull on me. I did not ask if he was stock, but I would think so. At any rate, he was a cool guy and we went our ways with mutual respect. He got the jump on me both times. Both runs were to about 90 ish and. That's all it took to know the final outcome.

I cannot say that all LS1's are in this kind of shape and I don't know if he was auto or stick. They are FAST so bring your A-game 350Z owners.

BTW, his car was beautiful as well as fast. And I did not see a single mullet in the ride either. Those people on this site who insist on perpetuating stereotypes need to get a life and then an education.

M

Good race. That sounds about right with him having people in the car. As for people who stereotype like that,

You know it is one thing to talk crap when you are reading about races (magazine racing) and it is another thing when you actually race. I saw it first hand, and seeing is believing. It was quite humbling, actually. There is always somebody faster than you. This car looked as though it could have been brand new.

But on that same day, I saw another firebird that was ragged to hell and driven by a girl that you would not claim to know even if she were your sister. She fit the stereotype to a "T". But this in know way means that every Camaro/Firebird owner will fit that image. In fact, my experience is quite the contrary. I hope my fellow Z brothers will take a hint and refrain from the stereotyping.

jooklum, sounds like a good run you two had. Certainly nothing wrong with a spirited run between a couple performance cars, even if you expect to lose. And always good to have an open mind such as yours. Besides mulletheads usually stick with the older Fbodys, can't say I know any trailer trash that can afford a $25k-$30k brand new car! I'm sure there's a few who fit the stereotype, but you'll find most LS1 owners are just speed junkies who wanted to buy the fastest and most powerful car for the lowest price. And have it not be a Ford

It was a good run. I enjoyed it. I could not believe how nice the car was. No flames, please. It was in great condition and polished to perfection. Again, I have mad respect for these cars especially being the victim of an LS1 kill story. I can hear it now, "those 350Z 's are nothing special. He was looking at my tail lights the whole time!" Ha! (Can you tell I am broken-hearted?) At any rate, it was an education for me. But, I can also see where some LS1 drivers may not KILL a 350Z like they should. My second run was a bit closer than the first. The downshift to 3rd @ 60 is right at peak torque for the VQ35. In eather case it did not equate to a win, just a closer race.

Any of you LS1 gurus wish to tell me what these things dyno stock? (I know you are out there reading these posts so why not reply to non-BS 350Z post?) This race was NOTHING like the s2k's, GT 'Stangs, and Boxster S races that I have experienced. I was ALMOST getting a big head!

Guys, I rode in this car and let me tell you, IT FLAT OUT PULLS!!! All I have to say is that no traction on the highway is scary when you are the passenger.
