Charles, you are right there again... If I am going with Ferrea valves, the only valve retainers that I can use are 6mm ones and also they will need different springs too from Ferrea... I have a whole list here if someone need it. just PM me..

Thanks Zexy... I hope things will turn out well...

cheers,

richie

Z350Lover, I really appreciate you sharing your information. I was about to pull the trigger on the cams but now I know I will need to upgrade my valve train. Good luck with your project!

That depends on how high you are going to rev your motor, if your going past 7400rpm you'll need a built motor first.

Murray:
Check your PM at the other 350z forum! I sent you some very useful info.

rednezz:
No worries... If you are just going for anywhere below 7400rpm, Nismo valve springs or JWT valve springs will be more than enough for ya! And cams will not shift your max power up by much though, probably around 300rpm or so, but if you have an 03 car, it is really necessary to get an 05 lower intake plenum from Jason@Performance because it really helps getting more power higher up!

Also for others:
I have decided to go for Ferrea standard size valvetrain set already and they are looking good though... I ordered them from www.xtremeracecars.com, Carl Jr. is really helpful passing me all the tech knowledges that they have on the VQ35 engine.. they are at NJ, so if any of you is around there, you can go in and talk to him about it... he is really cool and helpful! They have over 3 years building VQ35 engine up to 10,500rpm with 1400hp+ on their drag cars and they have no problem using the exact same parts from Ferrea... also he told me that the stock crank has no problem seeing 10,500rpm either! That's a relief for all of us as I was so afraid that I would snap the crank next, never know what will happen after the valvetrain...

The valvetrain set that Carl sells include:
1. Ferrea IN vavles (Stock size or 1mm oversize)
2. Ferrea EX valves (Stock size or 1mm oversize)
3. Ferrea dual spring Sets
4. Ferrea valve Guides
5. Ferrea titanium valve spring retainers
6. Ferrea seals
7. Ferrea locks
8. Ferrea valve spring seat locators

Hope things will turn well from there onwards next year!

cheers,

richie

not sure if you have seen these yet: http://z1auto.com/prodmore.asp?model...ne&prodid=1718

Max lift the springs will support is 12.8mm

would love to get a set on a Z....unfortunately they were not out when I did my heads, so we used the standard NISMO springs. We have been using the dual springs on some very high rpm Evo's with high lift cams (Tomei and JUN), with awesome results

If you need, they offer valves as well (stock diameter and 1mm oversize, though I'd stick with stock for your NA setup)

Adam,

Thanks for the info.... abit too late because I have already paid for the Ferrea valvetrain set... but I am sure Murray can go for this set though! It will be good alternative to Ferrea and looks like they might be cheaper too!

cheers,

richie

Is there any benefits going with these vs the ferrea springs? Would these last longer becuase they are dual springs?

Ferrea vavle springs are dual springs too (at least the one that I ordered is with dual springs)... Dual springs actually make the valvetrain set stronger I believe...

I actually went across supertech website 2 days ago, but didn't see much information on the vavletrain set info on their website and they don't seem to make valves to me, that was why I decided to go for Ferrea since it has been tested by people already on the forum...

cheers,

richie

Ah ok. I did not know that Ferrea was dual spring. How much did you end up paying for the springs?

Thanks Richie, Carl from www.XtremeRaceCars.com was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and good on them for using the VQ35 as their platform! Carl mentioned they are getting 1800rwhp!

Based on what Carl was saying I will also need the stronger valves and valve guides, so I'll get the whole kit also.

That's the way Murray!!! Good on you! I really think it is the best way for us who want to rev the engine up to 8000rpm though! We are now on the same boat!

thawk408:
We paid USD$1595 for the entire kit and that's the cheapest offer that I could find...

cheers,

richie

Piston speeds past 8K would be the next concern.

Murray: Nice one... probably our parts will get shipped together tomorrow...

yeah.. won't want to rev the engine pass 8K at all though... that is somewhere that i would never want to try... valves gave me enough troubles already!

cheers,

richie

With his rods and pistons I am sure he could go over 8k.

I was refering to the heat generated by the friction of the pistons against the cylinder walls once you go past 8000rpm, not the strength of his forged internals. A forum member caculated the speeds the pistons will be reaching at various rpm with the stock VQ35 stroke. Based on that data it seems that going past 8000rpm isnt the best on our motors. Though you might be able to do it occasionally for a short period providing you have adequate cooling capabilities.
