murray,
have you considered getting a set of sleeve kit for your 8000rpm + TT setup? it might be worth a while though since the engine is coming out too... Carl can be able to help you out there with his experiences on TT kit + higher rpm...
cheers,
richie

At 8000 rpm, the piston will have a max piston velocity of 35.46 meters per second, and a mean piston velocity of 21.7 meters per second. I'd post the formula for the mean velocity, but it would look awkward and I don't have it in a jpg to post it as it should appear, the max velocity just requires some basic differentiation to determine it. Those figures are fine, consider the SR20 revs to 8000rpm all day with little worry as long as the valvetrain is upgraded, and it has a mean piston velocity of 22.93- more than a VQ at 8000rpm. In fact, some guys here in the states have a 16V head on a DET, and are boosting 15psi with a 10,500 rpm street driven car. Makes just over 500whp. It's absolutely sick, but should give you some idea of how much room you have to go with the proper valvetrain modifications. Shoot, Honda S2000's are abused at the track with a 9000rpm limit, the mean piston velocity is 25.2 meters per second, with a max of 41. I don't know any other Nissan rod and stroke combos to tell you, but hopefully these help give you some comfort as to the room you have to rev before the inertial forces become too much for your rods to take. Good luck!

Will,
Thanks for the great info! that does comfort me a lot with 8000rpm... that means I shouldn't worry about 8000rpm as long as I have a set of stronger valvetrain in place!
cheers,
richie

Of course, the piston velocity is of little importance in and of itself. The speed the piston travels is not a big deal, it's the acceleration required to start and stop it that destroys conrods. In that SR20 I quoted, I am interested in a similiar set-up, but will not rev it higher than 9500rpm, at that speed the max piston acceleration at bdc and tdc on the exhaust stroke is over 70,000 meters per second square and approaches the max piston accel allowed before tension and compression strength of the rod is compromised due to the extreme inertial loading, and ring flutter is not far away either. At 10,500 rpm, it seems to survive, but I don't trust it to do so for sustained periods. The VQ is better suited than the SR20 (not the SR16 though) for such high rpm use, the piston speeds are just relative means to help guesstimate safe limits, its the acceleration that goes with those speeds that is deadly. So after saying all that, I'd say with upgraded valve train in place, you should shoot for at least 8500rpm, only because I really want to hear what this thing will sound like!

for those interested, we now have the Supertech valves available....this is the trickest stuff on the market, and let's just say there are some very well known cars in a very well known Japanese series using these exact components ![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I'll post pricing tomorrow, but the intake valves are stainless steel, black nitrided, and feature a tapered upper design (thus stock seals can be used). The exhaust valves are Inconel![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Thanks for the info Adam.... I am still waiting for the tracking number to come after 7 days I paid for my order with xtremeRaceCars, if they don't give me the tracking number (I missed FedEx on thursday and FedEx forgot to pickup the parcel on last Friday and this Tuesday again), I will cancel my credit card transaction with them and move towards whoever stocks the same Ferrea valves or other better valvetrain set!
I need those parts FAST...

MIAPLAYA:
I e-mail SGP even before I contacted XtremeRaceCars, but I never got a reply from them... because I don't want to get 1mm oversize valves, what I need are STD size valves... and no other vendors seem to supply STD size valves and MOST IMPORTANTLY STOCK STD size valves besides XRC..
cheers,
richie

no sweat...let me know if you need it. I have a few sets coming in, but could get one shipped direct if need be. They are offered in stock diameter and 1mm oversized
I wish my heads were not nearly complete or I would have gotten these myself!
we'll have to compare notes/dyno figures when we are both done...two different approches, but similar NA goals.
Me: stock bottom end, Tomei 268, NISMO springs, fully ported heads, headers, custom (internal) plenum with spacer, 7100 rpm revlimit (I have no plans to build a block so its going to stay here), UTEC, OS Giken clutch/flywheel

Adam:
Thanks for the info!
It really turns out to be FedEx's faults... did not turn up to pick up those parcels (murray's and mine) for 2 days in a row... So Carl Sr. called them up and "discussed" this matter with them and it turns out to be just fine... I do appology for causing any trouble with XRC (due to the tigh schedule that I have). The project is a bit delayed (thanks to FedEx, thought only UPS would do that), but at least I shall get those parts sometime next week and re-schedule from there! Thanks to Carl Sr. and Carl Jr. once again...
cheers,
richie

Update... I have finally got the Ferrea valvetrain set this morning... The whole kit looks really nice...
Somehow some of those parts seem to be new parts from Ferrea, I couldn't find those part numbers in their 2005 online catalog... because in the Dual Valve Spring box, the instruction says that the valve springs need to use with Ferrea Titanium Retainer (yes, I have that) and Ferrea Valve Spring Seat Locators (# SL 1056) and the Factory Supplied Seat Locators.... but somehow I got sent Ferrea Valve Spring Seat Locator with the part number SL 1057 instead, but on SL1057 packaging, it further says that I need these seat locators if I use Ferrea Guides (I have that too)... I did a few measurements and the spring seat locators seem to fit inside the outer spring and sit nicely at the bottom of the inner spring, and wondering to know how can the OEM seat locator fit underneath that?! Btw, those dual springs' outer diameters are 28.0mm and 20.8mm and inner diameters are 20.8mm and 15.88mm...
Also these dual valve springs are A LOT stronger than the ones that you can see @ Ferrea catalog... they are 200lb @ 24mm and 305lb Rate Inch with Max. lift of 13mm...
Or does anyone know anything about the part that I mention? Can I use SL1057 instead? I have to make sure that I can use this part first...
Here are the photos I took...
