I phoned him late last week about it and he said as soon as the x-member arrives he'll get on it right away. . .i'm hoping that this will actually be for an s-chassis. . .

I've found a few other crossmembers so i'm going to try and fab something for myself as well and compare it to vqswaps mounts. . .i'd like to get it as low as possible and as close to the firewall as possible.

Another fitment issue i've seen with a lot of vq's is the plenum sticks out about a 1/2" above the hood so they've had to cut out some of the ribbing. . .(i've got a cf hood )

There's someone else that's doing this swap into his wife's S14 and he was kind enough to show some pics of his custom x-member. . .i like his work. . .

specs are a lot tighter with this. . .can't wait to compare!

A genuine s14 x-member made to work with the vq came in today! Had a snowstorm up here so I wasn't all that motivated to go and work on it in an unheated area.

Also went to Calgary to pick up all my suspension parts and cooling items!

Will get the x-member in tomorrow and hopefully the engine and tranny as well!

Pics!

The x-member came with new mounts, but the bolts that came with it are too big to fit in the mount points on the engine, not a biggy but something not good on Vqswap.com's part.

The clearance on this x-member looks pretty good so far, just can't wait to finally get the thing in lol.

Does that xmember bolt right up to stock vq mounts? I'm not clear how the engine bolts up to the xmember unless it will make more sense when its bolted in.

yep the mount location on the s14 x-member have been modified/relocated so that it will work with the stock vq mounting brackets. . .but not the stock isolators. . .

Engine and the transmission are in, this was just to mock it up to check clearances. I had to remove the left header as one of the pipes was interfering with the steering rack knuckle. Looks like i'm going to have some custom ones made up pretty soon here. . .

Engine and tranny ready to go:

Everything is so tight, width and height, would have like to drop the chassis onto the engine and tranny. . . mebbe next time. . .

Next time I'll know to remove the plenum as the neck at the top hits the top of the firewall and prevents you from getting any angle. . .

Have to remove the power steering lines from the rack as they're right in the way. . .

Will have to grind out a little of the ribbing on the engine close to where it meets the transmission as it's just rubbing on the steering rack. . .
