any plans for headwork? port, polish, upsize valves...? looks like youre not planning to go too crazy besides the 3.8L part, but should be a fun motor when done. i hope you plan to get it all well balanced by a shop

I'm still not decided about what I want to do for the head but i'm probally gonna port and polish and get better valves. IMO a 3.8L VQ with 12.0:1 compression and 280* cams is great. I'm hoping for 300+whp and a rev limit of 8k

if youre doing 12:1 CR and 3.8L you should be able to absolutely shatter the 300whp level without any trouble.

You will need to add a better oil pump to that list, BTW.
Why not get the nismo heads instead of the stroker, you will get the 12:1 comp. and +1mm valves in one component?

I am not going with the nismo head because I want to raise the engine to 3.8L and it's easier to just get higher compression pistons. Plus more L means more Tq

The Nismo S1 & S2 heads both use 1mm smaller inlet valves

12:1 compression is great & all but may prove to be a pain for a street car. If you get 93 octane in NY it may be doable. If it proves troublesome it may require you to have less aggressive timing, which equals less power despite the raised compression.

With an 11:1 compression I had trouble tuning out some pinging I was experiencing with the lovely 91 octane we get in Ca & Ut (this was with an H22 Honda engine though & not a VQ, so a VQ may be a different beast when it comes to compression).

This is going to be an awesome and what seems very safe setup! You may as well throw in the (Nissan Pathfinder™ Cooling Modification) while your at it. At a glance, this look like a 20k project easily! Still cheaper than a 911 all said and done!

Its crazy, but when you think about it your not too far from a race engine. As far as the 20k n/a project, HP to $$ ratio and using it as a DD, I would also consider just dropping in V8, like NOAH. But if you're Nissan crazy, you'll do this

Why are you not opting for the 4.2L kit?

I wouldn't use a Mrev2 manifold on that build, and a lot of that stuff seems like it is not even needed for a build like this. Goodluck.

The OP listed "special" spark plugs in his build list?? Lol
Just get the regular old copper ones, you'll be fine.

Interesting. I love to see people building killer NA motors.

The only question I have is why you are going to use sleeves. If you don't really need them, I'd skip them... especially since it looks like you're using stock sized pistons.

Or... if you really want the sleeves... why not bore the motor to 100mm and go for a 4.1L build... just a thought.

Looks like it will be a lot of fun to drive...

you should do alot more research in terms of what you are getting yourself into

If you have $30k blowing a hole in your pocket, go for it

If you are concerned about torque you might want to stay away from long duration cams then. I was playing around with a program in school today, and I feel that high lift cams with a close to stock duration would be more suitable, they dont decrease torque, and they keep peak power in the 6000-7000 range which is good, on the flip side using cams with a 282 duration moved the peak past 7000 and hurt low end torque quite a bit.
Of course this is just a calculation program but the teacher said that it is usually accurate to within 5%.
I managed to make over 300 whp using cosworth heads and jwt C-2 cams along with the necessary breathing mods, all this on stock comp. and displacement.
I even got close to 400 whp but thats too much to list.
Mind you its only a computer program but if anyone has the money to prove it wrong be my guest.

He will supposedly be running a motor with a higher than stock displacement. A cam that seems aggressive on a stock displacement motor is not so much aggressive on a motor with increased displacement. With that said due to the increase in displacement you can look to also see the peak power of this motor to be made lower in the RPM range as compared to a stock displacement motor.

Yeah I understand that, but from all the setups I used for strokers it seemed like a better idea to not use long duration cams. I did plots for a 3.7 and 4.1 strokers and it seems like using long duration cams would actually require revving over 8k to take full advantage of them, anyone know if the 4.1 has the ability to rev over 8k reliably?

I have to say that the powerband that I liked the most was the 4.1, which made the highest power at 6500 rpm. I will try to get more scenarios with different cams/strokers/CRs.
