My NASA Racecar NA Build
#145
Well she is ready for the CAGE!!!! Taking her up to Japtrix Wednesday for a few final preparations and then its time to DO WORK!!!
I was really surprised to see her fire right up on the first crank, I figured I would of had to unplugged something to upset her. Idled like a champ!

Heres a pic of the gutted door you requested! Point of advice, dont have your audio shop install dynamat with your sound system if you plan on gutting the car in the future lol. My installer got it everywhere and I dont look forward to removing it.

Still going to use the stock hatch and glass, but I shaved the wiper years ago so that saves some weight. You cant have lexan side windows in NASA racing unless they came installed from the factory. Plus it would make hot as hell in the car. The only reason I would make some lexan replacements would be so that I dont have to be delicate with them putting them in and out for when the car is parked/being towed.

I am not overly familiar with NASA class racing rules....so alas I ask questions...lol. I think regardless it is going to be a scorcher inside the car in the florida summer. I would think going to a carbon/lexan rear hatch would be very beneficial in weight savings and lowering the center of gravity, but possibly throw off weight distribution a bit.

Took the car up today and had a long conversation with the cage builder...long story short, i have decided to just put the interior back and autocross the car...
NOT!!!! lol
Actually changed plans up a bit. First of all, the A/C is coming out. Just dont have the room underneath the dash to keep the factory dash bar and add the one for the roll cage. I want to keep the stock bar since it has all the brackets, etc. that hold the dash on. Second, we are cutting out the rear strut bar and making our own to tie the rear braces from the main hoop into.
Japtrix is going to finish the prep for the cage builder this week and the Z should go to the builder late next week. It will probably take about 2 weeks to build the cage since its all custom. From there, basic things like installing the seat to a steel permanent bracket, kill switch, relocate battery, and few other things. Pics to come!

Here a few pics after we cut out the rear strut brace and speaker/storage hump. Total weight removed here was about 60 lbs. The a/c is another 40-50 or so. She is going to super light! The plates he welded on the rear strut towers will be smoothed into the body so you wont be able to even tell. There is alot of undercoating that still needs to be removed as you can see in the trunk away. We are going to paint the entire interior silver, just a tad lighter than the outside color to give it a clean look. It took longer than expected to cut out the hump behind the seats so car should be be back at Japtrix by mid next week.
