Hello all, I recently put in my built engine today and I cranked it over with the fuel pump fuse pulled out and the spark plug connectors removed (Not the spark plug or the coil packs, they were all in the engine, only took out the harness connecting to them.) When I turned it over to crank it and prime the engine with oil, white smoke, thin- but noticeable came out of the driver side, and it smelled like rubber. Could it be because the hose from the valve cover to the intake pipe wasn't connected that the smoke only came from the driver side? I read online also how an a/c compressor can cause a burnt rubber smell, and mine has an open pipe since the pipe broke, but it was not on in any way and the belt isn't attached to it. Short story short, was this normal? Was it the burning of the rubber in the spark plug coil packs? The a/c compressor? Just normal priming after cranking for the first time? Ill try again tomorrow with the spark plugs completely removed, the A/C unplugged, and the hose attached to the valve cover. Sorry if this is a noob question, I'm trying my best to learn how to do everything myself.

 

My procedure tomorrow will be :
remove spark plugs entirely
pour a very small amount of oil into each cylinder
remove fuel pump fuse ( DO I ALSO NEED TO REMOVE THE RELAY?)
all the above in the post...

do i need to do anything else? Remove the injectors or no?

 

My question is why do any of this if you've properly clearance all the reciprocating parts, and coated them with a good assembly lube? Have you turned over the engine by hand? You also haven't mentioned much on what kind of a build you've done. Completely stock, or bumped up compression? Oversized pistons, cams, what? .
