Default Newbie Question on new 05' Z

Got a question for everyone here, which I probably should know the answer to; But I don't. I finally saved up enough to be able to afford a good down payment on an 05 Z. Took one out for a test drive and loved it, and was actually planning on buying the exact car I drove. Got a problem, though. When I drove it, it was practically impossible to stop smoothly. No matter how slow you are going and how small of a brake pressure you apply, the car jerks right before a complete stop. It will slow practically to a crawl, then the actual stop is rough. It gives you almost an abrupt jerk. Ofcourse, the dealer tells me this is normal but I want to see what you guys who have the car say.

It's extremely hard because I have nothing to compare it to. I've had two cars in the past, a 6 Cyl Mustang and a Civic. The Z is the first well tuned car I've ever been able to drive.

My 05 does not do that but does stop perfectly. Go to someone else. That would **** me off so bad I would call the sales guy and tell him what my research found and ask him why in the hell is he trying to sell me a $#%@ed up car.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I had a feeling he was lying. He was trying to give me all this garbage about the Z is a sports car, and none of them will stop smoothly because of everything purposely bieng stiff.

Yup; find another dealer. Yours is the first report I've seen of the brake issue.

When I went test driving I noticed the same thing. But I figured it was because I wasn't used to driving an automatic. Then I tested out a manual and the braking felt much better.

Interesting that you mention this, because I was indeed planning on getting the automatic for two reasons. The first bieng that I want an Enthusiast model, and I can't find one in manual anywhere here. Would have to wait a while and order it, which I don't want to do. The second is it would be my daily driver with a good deal of city driving.

So, yes, I did test out an auto. Now I'm wondering if that has something to do with it.

Remember the brakes on the Z are very linear (just like the throttle), unlike a lot of cars. They do feel different than some cars, and that is by design. It isn't tremendously hard to get used to, and if was that big of a deal, it may have been a problem car.

It is actually very rare to find a 6mt when not buying the standard. I had to buy a standard Z because the cool price Nissan dealer in town only orders AT for any Z with that option. If you do get an auto, make sure it's the 05 because only the 05 auto has rev-matching when you down-shift, so I've heard.

I really appreciate all the info guys. Huge help in making my decision to go elsewhere for the car! And, now that I think about it, you are right Nitrouz, I don't want the test drive vehicle anyway.

We have an '03 and an '05, and both of them stop smoothly. But, they are both also 6MTs. Are you east coast or west coast of FL?

It might be the new brakes and/or your driving stile. I used to have the same thing on mine but that was happening because I had a car with a really long brake pedal so I had to get used to Z brakes. But as people said, I wouldn't by a car that was test driven by a bunch of people before me.

I have an AT Enth. Never had any jerking problems from when i bought it up to now. Switch dealers or at least test drive another AT on the lot.

I would test drive another Z at a different dealer just in case. But I felt the exact same way when I test drove my first Z. But it was normal. I drove off the lot with that same Z. The brakes are sensitive, it just takes some getting used to. Now I can stop smootly jerk free.

Actualy i just bought my 05 Enthuisast AT and i am use to driveing a civic before this, a 127 HP civic hehe ANY WAYS.

I first get in the car to accelerate i shoot foward like a maniac cuz i am use to pressing down the pedal to get the civic to move, big mistake in a 350z lol.

So to correct the sudden burst of speed i hit hte breaks and i slammed my self to a complete stop jerking me and the dealer foward heheh. After appologizing 3 times i started to move again and did the same thing again haha.

Now i do not shoot foward or make the car jerk when i stop, yes at first it did jerk to a stop even when i was moveing slow, the problem? i had a lead foot and use to driveing crap that required a lead foot. After 2 days of driveing my foot has adjusted, now when i sit in some one elses car its horrible.

Every once in a while i make a jerk stop moveing slow but its my fault, i sort of like it hehe. Breaks are awesome on the car though.
