Im finally a Z owner.
Well after wanting a 350z since the day this bad boy came out I can finally park my butt in one every day. This past Saturday I went out and purchased a 2003 silver 350z touring edition with an automatic tranny. I know the majority of people will say its a horrible idea to buy in automatic but I live in NYC where I dont hit alot of open road unless I hop on a highway. Not to mention I bought my baby with only 18k miles with only a 19k price tag. I also purchased the 3 year warranty from Nissan just in case. Enjoying the car very much so far and hope to be an active member in the community here. I have a couple of questions that I wasnt really able to find answers too. First off how hard can my Z be tuned with an automatic tranny? Secondly are there any NYC Z clubs? I live in Astoria, Queens btw. Again I look foward to having fun with everyone here.

Congrats on the great buy, and welcome.
I have never driven in NYC. I always took a cab or walked. It was funny though, we averaged about 1 accident every 2 days in a cab there. I can't imagine having a nice car there and not being paranoid about fender benders.
As far as the auto tranny goes, you can tune the car to about 400 WHP before you need to totally upgrade it. If you go FI, you might consider at the minimum a torque converter and valve body upgrade. I might be wrong on here, but that's what I remember. Maybe someone on here has more experience with that. My roadster is in the process of being completely overhauled with a built motor, racing trans, and greddy twins, plus a bunch of other stuff. I just had stock trans before. I was running about 260 WHP with bolt-ons before this project. maybe someone on here has pushed the limits of the auto tranny and can tell you at what point they needed to upgrade.
Once again, welcome. Good to have you here.

Yeah but I have a parking spot here at work and its in a garage at home so I dont really have to worry on those ends. I have found a path that I take to work with minimal street abrasions in order to save my suspension. Still its a lil rough. Im so happy with my car though, just driving everywhere with a huge smile. Only thing that sucks is NYC is ricer capital of the United States. Every 5 minutes someone is trying to race me. If anyone has a specific list of things that can be done with the stock auto tranny I would greatly appreciate it. Obviously Im speaking performance wise and not cosmetic :P. Cosmetic wise tints are the first thing on my list .

Just get it in writing from the dealership that they will honor your warranty. Technically, Nismo parts (intake, exhaust, cams, etc) WILL void your warranty, but you can get them to agree to different terms. The main thing is, if you have a problem, they have to actually PROVE that the aftermarket part caused the problem. They can't even just SAY it did, but they have to prove it. I have been down this road several times, and the best advice is to have them agree and sign off on the part; have it installed at the dealership; have all service done at the dealership.
You shouldn't have problems anyway, but after a lemon with 2 blown motors (no FI or other mods), I would err on the side of caution.
