"Help"Need to get Day time running lights
hello, as i had said before, i just got a 2003 nissan 350z touring, how ever it is an american car and in order to pass the Canadian inspection tests i need to get DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS hooked up in it. now i dont want to spend 200$ just for damn lights, i was trying today to get them hooked up usuing the park lights, and the day time running lights would be the really small light bulb on the side of the lights. however i ran into some problems as it seems like it is almost impossible to get the wires that are up under the dash, has anyone ever hooked them up successfully?
Advice would be great,

Mmmm, I can't really help you as I am not very good in electrical plus I never did mine but I had bought my car from a car broker and he went to get mine in the states and it was included in the deal. My point is if you bought your car from a car broker and not private sale I think you should get those lights hooked up for free because a company can't sell a car that wont pass inspection so you might want to check on that if you got it from a car broker or something like that.
I have to do the same thing my car gets here wednesday I have to take it to canadian tire to get the paper work filled out they are the only place allowed to fill out the paper work from the boarder they want hour and a half labour to put it in plus the 35 dollor part. labour here is 105 an hour tho
wow, that is rediculous. i actually just found a guy that is able to hook mine up through the park lights. the two tiny bulbs in your front head lights can be considered day time running lights, so its just a matter of him taking a relay that has 4 Pin bosh relay, and have a plug in with Pig tails. Also if canadian tire is doing it, and they plan putting there 25 or 35 dollar package deal in, there has been many problems with them Day time running light packages form canadaian tire resulting in turning on your Service Engine light,
On this site here you can see what everyone is talking about the day time running lights http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread?&id=242123

Now this was a post on another website, that i found and seemed to be a bit usefull.
I'm not sure exactly how the shop hooked up your DRL's, but I'll tell you how I did mine on my '03 Z. I felt it was unwise to tamper with the HID system, and I didn't feel like designing a circuit to power the high-beams with only partial power. My method simply lights the parking lights (small bulbs in the headlight housing) when the ignition has power (car is running.) This is a *similar* method to how the newer Z's work with the bi-xenon lights. You will only need one automotive relay. First off, you will need access to the fusebox in the driver's side kick panel. Locate the red/blue wire (red wire with blue stripe.) This is the parking lights wire. Tap off this wire and connect it to pin 30 on your relay. Then remove the panel below the steering column to allow access to the ignition harness. Locate the black/red wire (black wire with red stripe.) This is the ignition wire. Tap off this wire and connect it to pins 86 AND 87 on your relay. Lastly, connect pin 85 on your relay to ground (any piece of metal that connects to the frame of the car.) Pin 87a on the relay is unused. Now when the car is running, the parking lights should turn on automatically. I have had this set up for several weeks now with no problems. I hope this helps. Let me know if you require further clarification!
And this is another post that was usefull on how to do it.
I hooked up a relay in the driver's side kick panel (just to the left of the foot rest.) The relay is connected to the parking lights wire, the ignition wire, constant power and ground. When the relay gets a signal from the ignition wire (i.e. when the car is running,) it feeds constant power to the parking lights. This worked flawlessly for me, met the "import requirements,"

Congrats again on the car. I'm sure the problem will get worked out and it will be cheaper than if you bought one there over all.
A post on this subject would probably get more responses if you post it in the appropriate sub-forum on lighting. Good luck.
