A few questions about a 350
I getting kind of tired of my current car. Ive had it for 3+ years. Its an 03 Hyundai tiburon. while I am sort of attached to it, I really want a change. Ive always had a great admiration for 350z's. I guess really then how are they on reliability. I'm a mechanic by profession so I can fix most anything but finding the time is difficult. it would definitely be a daily driver. Fuel economy, is also a minor concern. Im currently getting about 20mpg in the hyundai (V6) whats the "actual" observed gas mileage you guys are getting. and performance parts. one great thing about the tib is the parts are relatively cheap, exhaust around 500-600 and other minor things like headers (400-500). also I hate to say it but Id almost consider an auto because Im getting a little older, would I completely regret that? thanks for all the help you guys can provide!

if you drive mostly highway you can get up to 26-28 mpg on the highway.
reliability in general is good.
there have only been a few problems that show up often, and even those are almost always fixed under warranty.
I suggest spending some time looking in the Maintenance and repair forum.
I personally have only had one issue in 3 years, a bad sensor in the accelerator pedal. replaced under warranty, no big deal.

to answer some of your questions i get 19 mpg 50% highway 50% stop and go. i also like to open the throttle up every once and a while
the parts how ever can be pretty pricey. and the performance compared to a tiburon is substantial the v6 in a tibby is not that powerful there are alot of 4 bangers putting out more and the z is rear wheel drive so be careful if you have never had one before they can get pretty loose at times.

MPG wise, I average about 20mpg (city/freeway) (spirited/conservative driving). It's not too bad since you can control how much you want to spend on fuel. Drive hard then pay up, lol.
In regards to the auto or 6spd Z, it's your call. They are both great imo, just depends on what the driver wants. Where I live right now and where I am at in live, I prefer driving an auto. The manual mode is a little bonus to play around with. Basically controlled clutchless shifting.
I bought the car because I wanted a step up from my 00 Celica. Too tired of co-workers calling my car a rice rocket...I love the way the car looks because it fits me. Being a manager and 24, the Z fits perfectly.
I say, test drive a 6 speed and an auto. First impression will tell you more then we can.

Welcome to the forum. Happy Z hunting, don't settle for the first one you find, unless it's what you want, lol you'll be pretty set being a mechanic, you'll know what to check for anyway.

I made the switch from an '04 Tiburon to an '04 350Z
I couldnt be happier. Gas mileage isnt as good as the Tiburon (as you would expect) but not toooo much. Its well worth the trade-off for how much the 350Z has to offer in comparison to the Tiburon.
