My wife has always wanted a convertible.

Today she drives a Nissan 2003 Altima SE with the 3.5L engine which after 11 years has only 97,000 miles on it.

Since 2005 she has been in love with the Nissan 350/370 Roadsters. Well it looks like she is getting one tomorrow.

The car is just like new.....really. I call it New Old Stock (NOS).

The same dealer that sold it just bought back from the owners husband. He bought it for his wife who drove it some then fell ill and passed away. For the last two years it did not even get a new state inspection sticker and was not driven. The Z sat in a garage. I feel sad for the man and for his family's loss.

I do not think that the car had ever been more then 50 miles from the Nissan dealership.

It is a 2009 350Z Roadster - Touring with less then 6000 miles on it....yes less then 6k. The Z is bone stock. The engine and the car is in perfect showroom working order. The top retracted and deployed normally.

The car just received its second oil change and a new state inspection at the dealership last week.

Now for the questions.

How do you take care of the top of a roadster? What do I need to look out for, how do I maintenance it and what can I treat/clean it with?

What do you guys recommend for leather care on the seats?

Since the 2009 350Z does not have Nissan NAV/XM with Bluetooth option, what are the third party options out there for mounting a Radio/NAV/XM/Bluetooth/(possible Backup Camera) in the glove box area above the radio that hooks to the controls in the steering wheel that looks nice plus blanks out the old radio?

Most of the radio replacements with backup camera have the display in the radio position...she really want the GPS and Backup Camera to Cubby position.

Congratulations and welcome to the forum. There are specific products that you can buy to take care of the soft top, its just a case of looking around and asking the question to soft top owners to find out what they use/prefer. I hope you and your wife enjoy the Z experience.

 

Radioteacher, in sunny and ‘hot as hell’ San Antonio convertible tops deteriorate quickly if not protected from the strong UV rays. Since your car is 5 years old, most of the top's inherent UV protection will have dissipated by now. I use regular applications of Wolfsteins Raggtopp cleaner and protectant (you can buy them together as a kit) also good is 303 protectant. The Z’s top is vinyl (there are different products for vinyl and fabric top material) be sure to get the correct product. The special cleaner helps the protectant bond properly.

Take note of how many seconds it takes for the top to retract and fold into its hatch. Every few years it’s good practice to clean and lubricate all the gears and linkages that operate the top. If the top takes extra time to operate it’s time for some service There are 5 motors that open the hatch cover and raise and lower the top, they do so in stages. These motors are not partially strong and if any stage is dragging or creating extra friction it can burn the brushes in the motor. Pay special attention to the number two top bow (it free floats backwards as the top opens) there are two elastic straps to help this action. If it doesn’t fall properly in to place the top will jam a bit as it drops into the hatch. This all sounds complicated, but since each stage happens before your eyes it is not hard to comprehend.

For leather seats I use Autoglym cleaner and conditioner, Meguiars also make both those products as well as a combination cleaner/conditioner. The Ne Plus Ultra of auto leather care is the extremely hard to come by Leatherique products.

Thanks for the note on the retract time and sequence note. The wife has always been in tune with what ever she drives. I will show her what to look for and have her note the timing and sounds of the tops movements.

This car has had very little exposure to UV's. It was in a garage its whole life and was only on the road for less than 5400 miles. For over two years it just sat parked.

I am digging though the forums looking at different products for taking care of the car. I am checking out Wolfsteins Raggtopp cleaner and protectant among others.
