Hey everybody, my name is Rob and yesterday I purchased a Nissan 350z on OfferUp. The seller wanted $3,000 but I brought them down to $600 due to a lot of cosmetic damage including a bubbling quarter panel, a key mark on the fender and door, numerous broken interior trim pieces and last but not least... a rod knock in the engine!
The car is a 2003 base model with 204000 miles that has lots of modifications, many of which I plan to get rid of almost immediately including the decals, the starlight headliner, the coilover springs and all of the plastic dip. It is unfortunately an auto transmission, but for the price I can't complain.
My plan is to buy a low mileage JDM engine online and do a swap with my friend who has an engine crane and lots of experience swapping engines. I plan to do a lot of research on these forums because I want to know any and all issues I may face when swapping in a Japanese engine.
Cant wait to meet you all and see your builds!

I love seeing these threads where some poor Z has been neglected and abused only to be resurrected. I hope you stick with it and bring her back to glory!
Had the check engine light come on after driving the car a mile. Codes included p0102 (MAF sensor), P1610 and P1614 (Nats malfunction), P0550 (power steering pressure sensor), P0021 (intake valve timing control), P0113 (intake air temperature), P0011 (intake valve timing control), and lastly P0456 (EVAP control system). The longer I own this car I realize just how poorly the last 2 owners took care of this car. The owner in jersey 3 years ago left numerous service receipts totaling thousands during his couple years of ownership. After that id be lucky if it had an oil change.
My question- The P1610 and P1614 codes for NATS malfunction are present, but the car is NOT in lock mode. The car starts and drives. The keys look very messed up, one is aftermarket and the original looks like a dog chewed it so maybe it is just damaged. Should I get a new key programmed or just keep using the damaged one since the car turns over and drives fine? Im thinking I should probably get a new one made at the dealer since I am planning an engine swap in a month with a JDM engine and it will already be a pain and I don't need key/immobilizer issues added on top.
I think even at $80 (Ace Hardware) the money is better spent on other needs. Especially if it runs on both keys.
The downside is you may be at risk for theft, dunno. It's possible NATS has been turned off with UpRev. You did get a clear title, yes?
At any rate to evaluate the code do a search, the NATS problem may turn out to be a "Consult"/ dealer only option. Gl!
Yes the title is clear, just transferred it to my name at AAA last week. Ill look more into the NATS issue. The car has a very sketchy history and very sketchy last owner lol so nothing would surprise me at this point. thanks!
It's fun to cruise the FB marketplace for parts. Plus, there's a lot of abused & wrecked ones being parted out.
On one hand, I totally don't understand the mistreatment mentality. By the same token, there's fewer nice ones in the market and lots of stock and mod parts available.
