Default NEWBIE - Resale value...

Just decided that I need to get one. I have a Track model on order, but the problem is I will be busting my ***** on the repayments. I know the resale on the older 300ZX is very good - does anyone have any opinion on how the 350Z will go long term? I don't want to do my ***** again when I have to trade up...

You can't afford the payments on a track model?

Dude, this car is NOT worth stretching yourself too thin... no car is.

I paid $36,514 for my track back in Oct `02... I would be happy if I could get $25k on trade and $27k selling retail. Thus not even in two years, I have lost $10k... how is that?

It's typical with new cars. One really wouldn't expect to be able to get a few thousand less for a used car that's 2 years old with xx miles, as compared to a new one with zero miles. Which would you buy...

Used 03 Track with 15,000 miles (conservative) for $32,500
New 05 Track with 13 miles for $36,500

If the "value" didn't drop, you'd never be able to sell your car. No one would want to buy it because it's too close to the new price.

People need to remember... cars are NOT investments. Their value only drops, and mods may only bring in 1/10th of what you paid. If you prefer not to think about it, lease it next time. At least that way you'll know that you'll never see any of the money you are putting in.

I'm with PhoenixINX on this one. Especially since there are so many Zs that are cheaper...and you can always add the track equipment later. Why not just get a performance, save the $4k for brake pad/tire/clutch replacements (all seem frequent on this car), and do the upgrades later? The track seems to have a pretty heavy depreciation hit too...most likely b/c it's the most expensive Z and has a slightly smaller market.

I don't think the Z's depreciation is bad for its market, but in this market there's no car worth your *****. Wasn't one of the new Lambos named after a castrated bull?

Thanks for your feedback all. It seems that depreciation not as bad with these as with other $65k cars. I will keep my eye on the budget before I make a final decision. Crikeys I thought you guys were all petrol heads and would tell me to do it anyway. Glad to see we are all responsible - hopefully like me...

Z's that are daily driver will not hold value.

a Z that has 60k miles on it after 10 years will get 15-20K over long term.

the strenght in this cars resale value is long term, not in the first 5 years.

I do have a 5 year plan to hold onto this car. I think with every car the first few years are the worst. I will try not to turn it over too quickly...

Maybe you should consider getting a lower model of the Z??? If you're going to be crunchin for cash maybe you shouldn't go all out... and you never know what life has in store for you down the road.

I have a 2003 sunset track with 14" stoptechs front and rear(friggen huge brakes), pioneer DVD, alpine components, KW version-3 coilovers(sick I might add), and factory Navigation. I'm about to add the Central 20 front bumper (add ons are well over $10,000). It has 35,000 miles (almost all highway). I put 13,000 miles on it in the last 6 months driving from philly to pittsburgh every week, the rest of the miles were put on in one year driving from philly to NY. I truley love this car and all the attention it gets but I just ordered a Lotus Elise. I'm asking $30,500.
PS I got a Popcharger too...I forgot about that one

Never mind I just realized were you lived
