My 350Z NISMO CRASHED!!!!
Hey folks. Kinda maybe not part of the z06 forum, but I was out today in my new 2008 350z - only 3 months old 13,000 miles NISMO edition kept the z06 in because it was rainy, good thing I guess because I had a little incident with a guardrail and wet pavement.
I'm not sure what the heck happened, but i was turning onto the on ramp which is hill, and i did give it a little gas nothing that I haven't given it before but for some reason the car completely lost control and spun in circle and hit the guardrail mostly on the drivers side and ended up like this...

I wasn't going to fast ethier, maybe 20 mph, and possibly on impact about 15mph - maybe less. No air bags went off, nothing - very odd. Does anyone know if the Nissan 350z traction control has inherit problems? I read somewhere that a G35 owner, which is very similar to the 350, crashed his car going through puddle at 65 spun out everything. But comeon this was me going maybe 20 mph around corner not to aggressive and I did feel the car kick out and try to correct it but everythign locked up. More odd and worrysome is why my car did this, it seemed like the car completely lost control and everything locked up! God forbid another car, or truck was coming I would of been wiped out hit! I wonder if this is repairable as the car is limited production only 1500 made - this is 350Z Nismo. I dont think any damage was done to the engine, although I did smell antifreeze, so the radiator must been punctured. The guardrail basically the bottom of it hit exactly where the hood and the bottom front end meet. In any case this is my first accident so I wanted to know how long it'd take to fix this and if my car is going to safe to drive after repairs?
Also get this, the state cop came and I told him I was doing around the corner and the car just lost it. He kept telling me its the driver, I was like whatever... ****ole wrote me a ticket for driving to fast. I'm going to go back and take photos of the guardrail - minimum damage, barely nothing just dent with some paint. I dont know why my car looks so badly damaged????
Anyways I want to fight the ticket because giving me ticket for driving too fast in speeding conditions is bull dont you think? I honestly think that the area is very very slick and should of had warning "slipper pavement" sign or something, and combination of possibly the TC further inducing my spin - it certainly didn't help as it felt like I was litterly hydroplaning - tho there wasn't too to much water tho??

Thats to bad man, wish I knew what happend. As for the damage, it doesn't look all that bad, nothing a body shop couldn't fix I'm sure. I'm sure you didn't do enough damage to twist the unibody, so it should be just fine. good luck man.
Completely driver error. You may think it was the car, but you said "I did give it a little gas". 306 hp is enough to break tires loose on wet pavement with just a little gas. If both tires spun, the TCS wouldn't have kicked in.
Don't worry it happens to the best drivers in the world. Lewis Hamilton lost the F1 championship for giving it a little gas on wet pavement.
To get it fixed, pay the deductable, find a good repair shop & in 2-3 months, she will be as good as new.

seriously what if the car actually is flawed... i read somewhere that a G35 similar traction just decided to veer off and spun out from hitting a small spot of water going on the highway at 65 mph. So... to me I think the traction control system induced my spin even more great, although obviously i could of taken the turn more slow. actually... i correct the oversteer from the turn that wasn't the problem i gave it gas and i think that the right brake was applied by TC and the left was still spinning very greatly hence why the car rotated and smashed me basically on the drivers side. And if the guardrail wasn't there... i would of went over the crub and down a lil ditch.... stupid guardrail!!!!
I wonder how many of the 1500 have been wrecked now? Glad you're safe though.
Oh, and if you're going through insurance, have them give me a call for some new lights. I'll hook you up with color matched or something

TCS and VDC are driver aides—they cannot prevent nor cause car crashes. They only have limited and rudimentary control over ignition and brakes respectively and can be overcome by driver inputs.
Your thread title makes it sound like the car crashed itself. I know it sucks but you have to take responsibility for it since you were behind the wheel. All will be repaired and good as new soon!

I see it all the time in Oklahoma. Folks drive in the rain like its dry as a bone. Traction in the wet is just too unpredictable to press like you would on dry pavement.
Sorry about the Nismo, though. Glad you're O.K. as well. Find a good body shop and put this one behind you.
