Nitrous Basics Thread, read here if you want nitrous for the first time....
I Understand that, I have used Nitrous on my 347 Stroker motor years, but im not sure about how this engine takes it and what can be done to be as safe as possible.... I Dont plan on using TOO often, but when i occassionally drag the car, it would be nice to have, as I do not like FI that much.....
thanks
thanks
Read the stickied thread at the top of this Nitrous forum. That should answer majority of your questions.
Where in Dallas are you? I'm local to DFW and have experience with nitrous in the Z so I can try to help with any questions you may have. I installed my nitrous kit years ago and used it while I used to drag race. Never had a problem with it when I was spraying (100whp shot untuned) and did pretty well at the drag strip, too. I haven't used it in quite a while and my Z's down but it's all still hooked up and fully functional.
Those of you above spreading misinformation, please don't. I mean no offense when I say this: If you don't have any experience with nitrous then you shouldn't post "advice." There are plenty of others as well who have had no issues whatsoever with juice, many of whose setups vary from one another.

Type in Nitrous Explosion into Youtube. 23,000 videos come up, if only half of them are different cars exploding I think that explains why you can buy a production car with turbo or a supercharger but not Nitrous.
Don't take the cheap way out.

if you don't want to worry about rebuilding the engine soon I say you go with 100 shot, 600cc or bigger and a walbro 340lhp. in case later on you want to upgrade your internals your not gonna have to worry about fuel. just my opinion. good luck.
I have recently purchased a VQ35DE long block with a bad piston for $100 and plan on building it within the next 6 months.... Forged internals are little piece of mind while spraying....
I am live and work in Downtown/Uptown Dallas.... You? Any input on how you ran your Nitrous on your Z would be helpful... I have had alot of experience with Nitrous, just not on a V6... I just know on the V8's I have used it on, I always did fuel pump, injectors, colder plugs and then recheck the fuel again! lol
I agree with the nitrous explosions and how it can damage yur engine, but I am SURE there are just as many engines destroyed due to too much boost, bad tune, etc... I am not trying to be cheap, I just like to drive the car to the track and also do AutoX with it, so a turbo is not what I want for that... Not to mention the 100+ temps on top of a turbo is just asking for detonation..... lol
Thanks for info guys..
I did read the Sticky as well, it just does not go into what i was asking in this thread... Thanks again, any more input is welcome.

I'm way up north in the metroplex. I regularly attend meets and go to a lot of racing events (autox and track) so feel free to come out and say hi.
BTW, I have a thread in the nitrous section that shows how things were installed on my Z if you want to check it out. There's really not much you need to do other than the kit and some safety accessories for a basic set up. Fuel pump, injectors, etc usually aren't required, although if you're going to end up with ~150 shot, you definitely want to consider them. Most people have been ok up to that point, though.
And I agree that boost doesn't fit your needs. Among other things, it's kind of why I ended up with nitrous.

please don't reply if you don't have any experience or have this kit.
my the kit comes with a nitrous management unit (NMU)
1.first I thought this also work like a window switch that only let the n2o and the fuel flow on about 2500RPM then cut it off before it hit the cutoff, so I kinda assume that this kit is the safest kit around true or false???
2.for what I know the system does not let the n2o spray if the throttle is not on the fully open position but my greatest concern is the cutoff...
- what is going to happen in case I hit the rpm cutoff with n2o on?
-how will I properly manage to use this n2o system?
can you also give a tips and tricks with this kit and can you also share experience.

I have to be honest, it surprises me when people ask questions like this about NOS. This is one of those things that if you don't know what you're doing maybe this is out of your league. Watch some videos on YouTube and see what happens when you don't know how to use it properly.
Good luck with this...

It's been so long I don't remember the specifics of a ZEX kit but it is one of the more popular nitrous kits out there for the Z. As far as how safe, it really depends on your set up (particularly jet sizes), use frequency, and a tune, if applicable.
If you add a separate window switch on top of your NMU, then it should still work. Your NMU will probably be the one that controls when the solenoids open since your nitrous won't spray even if your window switch allows it if the NMU isn't opening the solenoids. That being said, I'd think the shutoff can be controlled by whichever of the 2 units that has an upper RPM limit that is lower.

I have Zex full set in my car. The zex box is set up on on wot and the window switch is set in on your rpm. I have mine set on 4400-6700. The lower your rpm the higher the risk of something breaking. Nitrous creates a lot of tq.
Example. 40 roll my car is around 4200 rpm. Wot at 4400 nitrous engage at 6700 nitrous cut off. Shift at 7000 (rev up ). Still above 4200 so nitrous cut back on as soon as it hit wot and rpm window
