Default CEL light after Zex install

i finished installing my zex kit and when i started the car it threw the CEL light . i havent even ran nitrous through it yet. The only thing i could think of that would cause this during my installation. is i installed NGK 1 step colder plugs and gapped them at 35. The engine sounds like its ticking/knocking but it runs fine and drives like it did before. Just a little nervous of the CEL light and dont feel comfortable hitting the Nitrous when that light is on. Any help would be appreciated!

Go get the CEL light checked out to see what's wrong. I would wait on arming the nitrous. good luck.

Hit Autozone up. They'll pull your code(s) for you. You did disconnect your battery right?

did you use the fuel T or did you use the splitter that came with the Zex kit? What did you wire the solenoids to?

I'd be investigating the ticking noise to see if something is unplugged, like a vacuum line. Also, is your oil cap on tight?

you can read it without having to take it anywhere. do a search, theres a detailed write up somewhere on this site of how to do that. i'd type it out but im too lazy right now.

if a cel was thrown, resetting it in hopes of it going away is not the right way to go about it. it could be a lot worse if a code is thrown while on nitrous. might end up throwing something out the side of your block while your at it.

check the code first. go from there.

well i checked everything once over. I saw no vacuum hoses or harnesses disconnected. I went to autozone to have it scanned. It came back as Code p0603, no other codes. The code reads as pcm having trouble keeping memory. Everytime i start up the car all my settings on the radio are the way they were and everything like the trip odometer is the same also so i'm not sure what it could be. It idles fine and drives like it did. the only thing was when i got on it on the way home, as i was coming to a stop, the car died and i had to start it back up on the fly. after that it ran fine again. I had the code reset and it hasnt come back on yet but i only went for a short ride. Any idea on that code and what could have caused it?

Any ideas where i should start to remedy the problem? I dont think the ecu is burnt because i would think the car would idle like crap and run bad. But that is not the case other than it just dying on me that one time. All my memory is still stored when the car is restarted. I did blow a few fuses during the wire/switch installation but all of the fuses were the inline fuses i was using in my primary wires. I also disconnected/reconnected the battery numerous times checking my wiring. Could it just be a faulty code or is it a big problem?

Default update!

well i just drove the car for about a 50 mile trip. The car ran strong and idled just as it did before. No more CEL since i've had it cleared. near the end of my 50 mile trip i hit a 75 shot with the bottle reading 950 psi. It put a big smile on my face! It pulls good and just keeps pulling though the rpm range and every gear! Next step is to hit the dyno to see where my A/F ratio is and the numbers. I think its running a bit rich b/c i can smell a little fuel after a nitrous run (never had nitrous before so not sure if thats normal). I'll see tomorrow when i pull the plugs tho check them.

If your smelling fuel, and with the symptoms you say it had, sounds to me that your intake tube at the manifold is not tightened down all the way, or not pushed on all the way. If it is loose, it can let air into the engine after the MAF sensor and cause the engine to die at low RPM's. If loose, it will also let the raw fuel from the spray leak out and cause you to smell it.
Even if running too rich, you shouldn't be able to smell the shot fuel while driving under throttle unless it is coming from the engine compartment.
Check the intake tube and make sure it is pressed all the way on and tightened down.
Also check your nitrous nozzle to make sure it is tight and there are no gaps for air to get in.
I used two flat fuel resistant gaskets on my nitrous nozzle (inside and out) to make sure I had a good seal.

If your not having the problem anymore, the tube may have slid on and closed the gap, but I would check it anyway.

+1 my nozzle moved around a bit after install even when securing with zip ties. I had it welded into the intake tube and all was fine.
