yeah - if you're doing a lot of driving, make it worth it. we landed in vegas then immediately rented a car and drove to san diego to see a buddy of mine. then we drove back to vegas to stay for a few days, and turned the car in right away. we did a lot of walking and cabs the rest of the time.

i just wish i avoided Fox rentals. avoid that place like the plague. and hope you pick something cool! take video!!

there was a top gear episode where one guy flew from LA to vegas, and the other lucky bum drove the same route in a Ferrari California. holy crap - that's a car for a drive like that....

That is exactly what I was thinking. They have all have speed limits now, right?

Feb 23 - 27. It's gonna be a blast. My friend lives in Bullhead City/Laughlin so I'll probably hang out there a bit but we have some plans to shoot machine guns, do some general Vegas fooling around, and maybe see a Cirque show. She works in a casino so she can get me some pretty good discounts too. One of the car rental places I was looking at offers a 25% industry discount.

I've been looking at U-Save and a couple of exotic rental places. I may see if I can get a Porsche or something for a day or two and get a crapbox if I need one for more. I thought about doing some driving school or something but they're ridiculously expensive... something like $600-700 for 10 laps. They do include several hours of instruction but yeesh. As much as I want to get back on a track I don't think that's the way to go.

That episode was great. :P I haven't been in the desert since before I was old enough to drive... Should be fun.

regarding driving schools, if you really want the ultimate driving school, I'd go here in Phoenix:

http://www.bondurant.com/index.php

It's expensive, but totally worth it

I figured I would be able to find something relatively cheap and still fun for like a day out there. I was kinda reading about the Mid-Ohio school... it's relatively cheap if you drive your own car. In 4 days you can get a NASA competition license. Not that I really need that... :P

I am going to have to decide how to pack... I normally do two carry-ons (both of my bags will fit under the seat actually...) but Spirit bites and charges for ALL bags. I almost bought a more expensive ticket with a stop in midway to avoid it. Charges like that really **** me off. They'll probably charge for soda and peanuts too.

So aaaannnyywwaayyy... because of that charge and me being cheap I may not even take my GoPro since I may have to lug two laptops around for work.

Thumbs up

I've been pretty happy with Delta since they killed Northwest Airlines.
I guess the baggage fee would suck but Delta waives that for Gold, Platinum and Diamond Elite.

Lee: Personally I'd skip the rental and invest in Rob's suggestion of going to Bondurant. A friend of mine used to be an instructor at Skip Barber and even he said Bondurant was the place to go.
If budget is an issue, the Bondurant karting is supposed to be cool. 4 hours for $400 and the karts can get up to 100mph in less than 6 seconds.

Have a great time Lee. Get some work done but leave lots of time for play too!

I'm excited, but I'm still waiting on the snow to melt completely and daytime temps to be consistently higher than freezing to pull the Z out and renew the (driving) insurance on it.

yeah.. I think it's going to take me a week to get used to the Z trans again after driving the 5spd VW all this time. I'll probably stall it out a few times.

But yeah.. I've got the itch to get the Z out.. not long now.

For those of you not on our emal list, the next GLZC meeting is set for next Monday, February 21st at Kart 2 Kart:

When: Monday, February 21st (Arrive at 7pm)

Where: Kart 2 Kart
42705 Van Dyke Avenue
Sterling Heights, MI 48314
(586) 997-8800

Plan to arrive at 7pm, and we will try to have the first race at 7;30pm sharp. Afterwards we will hold our meeting in the front lobby, then go out for more races again!

I know for some this may be a long haul, but let me tell you, it's completely worth it!

The price will be $12 per 8 min race.

Can't wait to see everybody there!

Here's a vid Deepu recorded last time we were there:
