Default I got pulled over on the way home from today's meet, lucked out again

On Arlington Heights Rd. in Arlington Heights. My new method of just being totally honest with the cop payed off again.

Here's the dialog:
Cop: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Me: I was speeding.
Cop: Any idea how fast you were going?
Me: Probably around 50
Cop: Actually, 53. The limit is 35. Why were you going so fast?
Me: It's kind of a fun car to drive fast.
Cop: I can see that. Why aren't you running a front plate?
Me: It looks much better without it.
Cop: Well, you're required to have one.
Me: Yeah, I know.
Cop: Well, if your license comes back clean, I won't write you up for speeding and I'll just give you a compliance ticket for the plate.
Me: I really appreciate it.

So, he came back with just a "fix it" ticket for the plate. If I show up at the police station with a front plate (which I'm just going to cable tie to the grill), it goes away.

I've gotten way too lucky lately. Last four times I've been stopped I've only gotten a warning or no ticket at all. I really hope my luck holds out.

Never, I repeat, NEVER admit to anything. When asked why you were pulled over say " I do not know why.". If he had given you a ticket, the "I was speeding" comment would remove any chance of fighting the ticket.

Ha ha, thats great. Sorry bout the fix-a-ticket. At least you didnt get nailed for 95 bucks for speeding. You can put that 95 bucks into an envelope marked "H.B." for our next meet.....

I forgot to add that as he was pulling away, the cop held up his radar gun so I could see the "53" on the display and started laughing.

Hah hah.. that is great man. I had a LOT of such encounters with police with my old car, a 2000 Celica... the first year alone I got pulled over about a dozen times.. and only got 2 tickets.. only because I was being honest with the cops and didn't argue. They treated me well.. still haven't gotten pulled over in the Z.. we'll see how it goes

Man those suburb cops are brutal. They have nothing else to do with thier time. Thank God he let you off, it must have been a good day. I am soo glad I live in the city. The cops over here have better things to do.

You must be doing something right in your life Frank.

I like the honesty approach. I bet the police enjoy stops such as this, where first of all, they are not in danger from the person they have pulled over, and secondly, it isn't an argumentative encounter. I'm sure it is a relief for them, and as such, they (on occassion) will share the relief with you.

As for not admitting to anything in case you want to fight the ticket later, my guess is that you wouldn't have fought a resulting speeding ticket. You got caught, you knew it, so you would've paid the ticket.

Exactly!

When I was younger, I used to fight, deny, argue. These days, I'm just like, the worst that will happen is I'll get the ticket I deserve and maybe if I'm lucky, I'll catch a break.

Frank,

Nice to meet you yesterday,

I got pulled over by a county last week doing 70 in a 40.
He asked me if I knew the speed limit?
I said I THOUGHT 50.
He said 40, and why I was speeding?
I said because I just got the car and it's a blast to drive, and then I apologized and said I have no excuse and if he needed to write me a ticket I understand.
He said he appreciated my honesty and asked if I had any points on my license?
I said not yet, but that may change very soon. He laughed.
He ran my license, wrote me a warning for 60 in a 40
And then we spent 10 minutes talking about the car. Very Cool.

Don't lie to cops or try and pull B.S., I know enough of them and most of them were some of the biggest troublemakers when they were young, so they know the routine. Just apologize and be respectful, it gets you alot farther than pulling the whole admit to nothing and saying I'll fight it in court and being confrontational.

Good job on the warning.

Neil

Frank, I see you have a V1 hardwired. It didnt help you avoid getting pulled over all these times?

Either way, glad it worked out for the better.

This time was right across from a strip mall, so the V1 was going nuts. The cop set it off too, but I wasn't paying much attention.

The time before that was for not stopping at an automatic toll booth. I have an I-Pass so I blew through doing 25. Before that, was for speeding, but stupidly I had left the V1 in my other car. The time before that was for improper lane usage.

Believe me, the V1 has more than payed for itself over the years.

Honesty is the best policy. I got pulled over last weekend for 41 in a 25. I just told the cop that I wasn't paying attention to the speed limit like I should have. I also made a point to close my cup holder to give him a clear line of sight into my glove box, ( big browny points!).

He let me go with a verbal warning.

We have a glove box by the retractable cup holder?

Sorry, but if you have a Z, then.....

Sorry, should have stated that I was driving my 95 Chevy P/U.

Bet you wish you had a glove box in Z! I know I do!

I do like the BS meter, where'd you find that?
