The radar detector ban is about as stupid as the VA tint law. Just about every other state allows 35%. VA only allows 50%.

People think they are illegal in NJ too. Everytime one of my friends or a girl gets in my car they say "aren't they illegal" hah. My ex gf's mom that works in the municipal courts insisted they were illegal when i first starting going out with her daughter and finally found out they weren't. I would be so pissed if a cop took my Valentine 1!!!

It doesnt matter if there illegal or not if you get the Beltronics or K40 radar and laser defense systems. Undetectable.

You are misinformed. They can detect your radar detector with a Spectre III because every radar detector emits frequencies that they can pick up.

The Valentine One is the least detectable detector by RDD's or Radar Detector Detectors in states where radar detectors are illegal. The Spectre III is the most used RDD in the world and it can only pick up the Valentine One if it is 166 feet or closer which is better than the X50 which can be detected 954 feet away.

Check here for the RDD testing:

They did test it and it failed to jam any laser gun at all so they left that part of the testing out of the report. K40 is great at marketing their overpriced products to people with money but they are inferior in quality and performance.

Mine works fine and I know it first hand, by testing it myself. But everyone has their own opinion. But just as a side note. If the media was testing something that claims to be so good and turned out to be so bad, why would they not report on that and leave it out? Just a little suspicious to me.

The only reason I questioned it was because a cop in Florida that pulled me over (with laser in a construction zone) said he knew I had a laser diffuser because he had to switch frequencies or something to get my speed. But by that time I had already slowed down fairly significantly.

The cop was lying to you, there is no way to "switch" a laser gun's frequency.

Del. Joe May, R-Loudoun, told the House Transportation Committee there is no solid evidence that prohibiting radar detectors improves highway safety. To the contrary, he said drivers who are paying attention to their radar detector tend to be more alert.

Ben Lacy, a lobbyist for the National Motorists Association, supported May's bill.

"Speeders are going to speed whether they have a radar detector or not," he said.

May also said the ban makes Virginia inhospitable to drivers from other states--a situation that he said should be rectified before next year's expected tourist influx for the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown.

But representatives of the Virginia State Police, the insurance industry and the Virginia Sheriffs Association spoke against the bill, arguing that it would make the highways more dangerous and drive up insurance rates by increasing the number of car crashes.

State Police Capt. Steve Chumley said a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study showed people are more likely to speed if they have a radar detector.

John Jones, executive director of the sheriff's organization, suggested the ban is a matter of common sense.

"The only reason you have a radar detector is to break the law," he said.

The committee voted 11-4 to kill the bill.

On an unrecorded voice vote, the panel also rejected legislation to eliminate the requirement that motorists display a license plate on the front of their vehicle as well as the rear. Del. Mark Cole, R-Spotsylvania, said his bill would save the state nearly $2 million a year.

Del. Charles W. "Bill" Carrico Sr., R-Grayson and a retired state trooper, said police officers find the front license plate helpful when they are looking for a criminal suspect.

The law itself is unlawful because it is contrary to FCC federal law that states that is IS lawfull to receive any signal. VA is relying on the fact that it is too expensive to appeal to higher courts.

Radar detectors in NJ are legal. Its against the law for cops in NJ to use certain laser.
On June 13, 1996, New Jersey Superior Court Judge Reginald Stanton stated that he was not convinced of the accuracy of the LTI 20.20 Marksman. As such, he ruled that any readings taken with the LTI 20.20 would not be accepted as evidence in any pending or future speeding ticket cases.

Are these actually a worth while investment? They are only good on like freeways and wide open roads right?
