Does that mean you will have actual dyno numbers and all that good stuff by Saturday? We should all guess what we think it will come in at and whoever is closest wins a prize.
Well I made the jounrey to NC Friday night, and oddly enough things didn't go as planned. My drive down there was 480 miles. Car drove FANTASTIC the entire time, got to the last 1/4 mile before my hotel and I put the clutch in to coast and the car started to make a loud ticking and shut off on me. Very grateful it did get me to the hotel however (Lucky portion of this unlucky event).
Anyway started to tear into it with Ray Saturday morning and neither of us had ever heard of this issue before. Out of all of the parts Ive switched on my car, the failure mode turned out to be the only OEM portion of my motor, the timing chain guide. Again, never heard of this happening on a VQ. The black plastic part of the guide just came off of its bracket (mind you these parts have about 1200 miles on them because I replaced them when I built the motor). When that guide came off, it put slack in the chain, which then started to chew up some bolts, and this extra slack allowed the chain to hop over one of the timing gears.
After looking at everything with Ray, we determined all that needs to be replaced is the timing set. We were worried about the valves getting bent, but we compression tested and all came out good. So another slight delay in my car being done, but now I left it with Ray so he can do the timing again. So next time I go to get it, it should be done and tuned 100%.
Wow what a PITA. Good thing you can keep the car at RZG, good thing you made it to the hotel, and good thing you and Ray found the problem and it isn't an expensive fix.
I have to say you guys tore that thing down pretty quick.
I have heard of this happening to the VQ's. Typically it's due to neglect and oil level/life, but you may have gotten a faulty component in your case...
Who's putting the car back together after Ray fixes the engine? He taking care of all of it?

Yea it went fast. Got my car to RZG around 10AM saturday and by 11:30 we had it torn apart and diagnosed what needed to be replaced.
It's definitely just faulty, was driving very respectfully when it broke and that guide had 1200 miles on it. And oil level was perfect, that was the first thing I checked.
Typically I like to do my stuff, but given the circumstances and knowing Id have to drive back to NC to tune again, I left the car with Ray. He's doing the timing and tuning and then Im going down to get it when its finished.

I'm the same way. Enjoy it... It seems like it is in good hands.
Feel like I've been gone from this thread for forever. Good to see the Z is in good hands Craig.
I've been busy with finding a second car again after my accident. Finally decided on a new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. Extremely happy even if my wallet is not.
Z related: I'm personally still fighting an issue with my throttle body I believe. Need to get it pulled now that I have a second car again and start digging into it all. For now, she's retired from daily driving again.
Hopefully that Jeep treats you well. I think robert said he wouldn't mind you trying the TB on our purple car. But that still requires you to drive to the shop in Shoemakersville
I just made arrangements to come pull it off the Z while you guys are down at Cruise week. Very thankful for that and it should help me diagnose a lot better. I'll put some miles on the Jeep, no worries...already at 81
Damn high rollers up in here, I almost got a new wrangler back in 05.. I just couldn't bring myself to trade in my rsx for such a basic buggy... The new ones are anything but basic though. They are also a lot more expensive now.
Yeah they are expensive and bear, but they don't depreciate. I checked the KBB on an identical version of my Jeep from '14 with 40,000 miles (how mine will probably be in 3 years when it's paid off) and it was work $700 less than what I paid for mine. It was a no-brainer then to make the purchase.
Ended up making it to RT tuning and back successfully. Things went very smooth.
At one point we were at 485/435 but turned it down to 467/430 for longevity...
Very pleased with the numbers, and only cost me $730 yesterday on top of the $200 deposit.
Uprev ARC features work great. Antilag builds about 2 psi at the line. No lift shift is sketchy but works if you wanted to beat the **** out of the car. Rolling antilag needs some work, just makes the car shake a lot...
The car is hungry for tires in second and third. It sounds like a really mean car with the open dumps, cuz it is
