I think in the WWSCC series you would end up in Open Street (OS), in SCCA - Street Mod 2 (SM2). Yeah, the competition is pretty tough in those classes and your modifications have to be pretty much at the limit of what the rules allow to be competative w/ the class leaders. But the good news is that if you have no prior experience in competition, you are required to run your first 3 events in Novice class.

Novice class is a non-championship class but you still get those little trophies if you place in the top 20% of your field. You need to run Novice class on steet tires; tires w/ a tread wear of atleast 140. For you it's ideal because other than the tire rule, there are no limits to modifications. So for comparatively skilled drivers; He who brings the biggest gun to the fight WINS. Not to many cars come out to Novice class that are already OS/SM2 cars.

Man.. I'm looking forward to seeing how your Stage 4 does this Saturday!

with FI mods, you'll be in something like SM2...which would be really hard to be competetive; I just checked WWSCC rules for the novice class...I would have assumed it would be indexed based on your car, but I couldn't find any details. I'll check around more and post what I find out.

okay, so I just checked the current entry list for this Saturday...looks like the Novice class is NOT indexed...so it's fastest car wins; http://www.autocrossscorekeeper.com/...iewentries.asp

Wasuber, is this you: "#3 2003 Nissan 350z Blue" in the PM novice group?

Nope, not indexed. Biggest gun wins. Kinda unfair to the guy that drives onto the lot w/ a stock 80's Geo on all season tires, but I've seen POS cars w/ amazing drivers behind the wheel beat $50k sportscars.

not if you're a better driver...power on a autoX isn't the biggest factor to winning; being smooth, not plowing through corners, ...etc is much more important...that's why you see miata's w/ top times for so many different courses.

Hey guys
do many spectators show up to these events? I'd like to come and check it out this weekend to see if it is something I would be interested in.

Interesting...maybe it would be worthwhile to run some novice events. Only thing is that it requires street tires. I'm soooo not interested in running the dubs. It wasn't that bad at all when I had the 19's. I guess just more motivation for me to find my next set ("downgrading" back to 19's).

So you're required to run your 1st 3 WW events as Novice, but can you continue to run in the Novice class beyond the first 3 events if you choose?

^ Nope. After your 3 Novice events, you are no longer conisdered a Novice and you must choose a regular class if you wish to continue competing. It's not that you couldn't run in SCCA-SM2 or WWSCC-OS later on, a lot of guys do, but they always have a few serious competitors that are out to win a championship. If you're not looking to win a championship, and just looking for a good time to see how you do in competition, it's prefectly fine to run in those classes.

Just show up anytime the day of the event if you're looking to just watch. The event is open to the public. You do need to sign a waiver for insurance reasons, but about it.

Parking will be tough if you show up later in the day since the pits and general parking is one and the same. Just don't park in someone's pit while they're away doing their runs, that would be considered a party foul.

Just to FYI: If you've gonna be going to the Evt event this weekend be aware of the speed limits. DO NOT speed or try anything that could be considered reckless while on or near Boeing property.

there's always lots of ppl at these events...lots of wives, kids, friends, other competetors who show up early or stay late; the day is split into 2 AM and 2 PM groups...if you're competing, you only need to come for your group. i.e. AM ppl will show up for the whole AM session; they'll work 1 AM group, run 1 AM group, same goes for the PM session.

if you're looking to see other Z's run, Wasuber and I are both running in the PM group.

You're no longer a noob to autoX. Good luck on at the WWSCC #1. Looking forward to hearing about it.

Today I went over to the Sand and Sage Sports Car Club (SSSCC) event at the Yakima Sundome lot.

Warm weather (what's that?), six runs, 3rd overall PAX (less than 0.2 PAX seconds back from first).

Good times! SSSCC always seems to put on good events!

Not sure yet, I jammed right when we were done working our shift, had to be somewhere at 6:30 so I will have to check the results website. I spaced looking at the time sheet after our runs. That was a way tougher track than Sat. I had 2 clean runs 65 sec. then a clean 63 then on the 3rd run I got a 64 with 1 gate
