Will he be able to do anything for the A's? I personally like the deal... For only 500,000k why not take a chance... Billy Beane always seems to suck the last few years out of the old players...

Finally a big bat in the lineup! I hope he stays healthy If so we should see a significant boost in the run scoring dept. They also picked up Milton Bradley. Best part is they haven't lost any key members from last year in the process, unlike previous years.

I think Big Hurt for a not-so big contract could prove to be a good move.

I like the way you guys think! If he stays healthy then for 500K why not sign him??? If he gets hurt then Beane is going to have to go shopping again!

If the A's can get 100+ games out of him and he goes .270ba, 20hrs+ and 75rbi+ it will definitely be worth it.

He has another $2.5M in performance based bonuses. Great job of taking a minimal financial risk and making him earn his money. I think Billy Beane is one of the best in the league at getting the most out of the people and resouces he has available.

Will Big Hurt be a DH exclusively? Hatteberg will continue to play first base?

He became a free agent this year and the team declined his option in Nov. Johnson is supposed to take over 1st base duties full time from what I've read.

From what I have read the Oakland A's are not going to leave Johnson, Swisher, and Thomas out of the line-up on a daily basis. This means that Bobby Kielty and/or Jay Payton are now going to be trade bait. Oaklandathletics.com reports that Swisher will now move back out to an outfield starting position, Johnson is the 1st baseman, and Thomas is the starting DH!

How about Erubiel Durazo??? share first base with johnson and DH with Thomas??.....

If he is still around, trade him (angels??) for a speedy leadoff man...

Kendall, Kotsay, Chavez, Thomas, Bradley, Johnson, Payton, Swisher, Ellis....still no speed on base....

I believe there are no plans on bringing Durazo back.

For $500k, you don't have much to lose. Hopefully he can stay healthy!!

It has already been announced that Durazo is going into the free agent market, and will not be returning as an Oakland A. As for the speed, kotsay (though he does have a bad back) does posses speed as well as kendall. Mark ellis and Bobby Crosby are by no means SLOW... But I definitely know what you mean in terms of speed, we do lack that speedster at the top of the lineup who makes every team scared when he gets on base
