Default Transfer of Ownership Question...

Hey guys,
I'm looking at a 06 350z this week. I was wondering if I were to buy the 350z from a private seller, but the car is still under warranty at new city nissan, how would i go about changing the ownership at the dealer? Just wondering because if there was ever a tsb or recall, wouldn't it get sent to the original owner? Also, is the warranty even transferable?

You must notify the dealership and pay a small transfer fee. In my case it was 50 bucks. thats going back about 10 years.

Nissan's bumper to bumper is 36 months or 36k miles. Powertrain is 06 months or 60k miles, which ever comes first on both. The warranty goes into effect when the first owner titles the car which is called the in service date. From that point on the clock starts ticking. In between if ownership of the car transfers from one owner to another, so does the warranty automatically until it runs out. If the previous owner had purchased an extended warranty on top of the factory then he/she may cancel it and get a prorated refund. As for a transfer fee, I never had to pay one when I bought a preowned car. Private seller you may have to with the extended but the basic shouldn't require a fee.

ok thanks. So if I go down to the dealer and maybe pay a small fee, the warranty would be in my name and i would get any of the tsb or recall info if they had one?

My g.f. bought a Nissan titan that was still under warranty, and when i went to buy my 350z, we asked the guys at King windward nissan about the warranty issue, and we just gave them our current title, and they swapped out the name under the warranty. didn't need to pay a fee. was a pretty simple process. Just call and ask them to make sure, and it shouldn't take that long. hope this helped

Ok new question. If the previous owner has no maintenance paper work, would the dealer void the warranty? Think it was done by the owner. Car i'm looking at has 6,000 miles

They shouldn't. They don't know that the preivous owner did his own maintenance. Plus not much go wrong on a car from a maintenance point of view.

everything should be fine as long as you have the title, and it's still under warranty without modifications. Especially with that much miles... If you call the dealership, they can answer all your questions, and they won't give you a run around with a new car like that. If it was older with an extended warranty, then they might give you sh*t, but not a new one from my own experience.

I tried calling new city nissan and the finance dept. guy told me the warranty would still be transferable. Now all I need is the license/vin and hopefully new city can tell me specifically for that vehicle if the warranty is still good. I was just concerned because my mechanic told me that if he doesn't have proof of paperwork for maintenance, new city will use that to void the warranty.

nah, don't worry... it's probably like that with the extended warranty cars. A factory warranty should be good to go with no problems. good luck with your transfer, and i hope you don't get screwed in any way.
