The only other real 'safety' consideration is the fact that there is a short delay when pushing the button down before it either starts or stops the motor - this prevents an accidental push and release from doing anything.
The tach feature prevents cranking the car if the motor is running.

found some thing of interest: http://www.automobile-security.com/products.htm
You would need a power cut to stop the car but its like a push button start only. Hmmmm...
EDIT: Trying to get confirmtion on the power cut by the company. It says you need no keys at all. hmmm...
also found an additional security feature that seems kinda kick ***:
Identisafe-09 "Robotic Offensive Security" (optional /additional feature)
We guarantee you 100% that the thief's body will be paralyzed for 30 mins or more if he attempts to steal or hijack your car.
He cannot move any part of his body till 30 mins. In the mean time the auto dialer calls you on your phone. Thus helping your car to remain safe. The thief is not hurt but only temporarily paralyzed. This security feature is legally permitted in USA, UK & Europe & is available for advanced versions of Identisafe-09 & Retinasafe-18.This feature is optional and is provided without any additional cost only when demanded by client when he orders Identisafe-09 or Retinasafe-18.

I'm curious if you've figured out the way around the steering wheel lock? I would just put a key in the ignition, turn it to the on position so that the wheel is unlocked, break the key off in the ignition, make sure it stays there, and cover it over with some sort of trim. Too simple?

Possible, or you could remove the key switch all together and that disables the lock perminately. Or in some cars there is a position that opens the lock and you can take the key out, still leaving the wheel lock as a viable safety option.
Im still out of country, this time on vacation so no worky on this until I get back home.
