Default stupid TT questions...

do i need to get a fuel return system if i'm only looking to run 400ish rwhp? ... and does anyone have a clue on what labor costs would be to replace rods and pistons on the VQ.

Here you go bro...check the website and read up. Better yet call them. If you want to do it right, get the AAM basic return system. I've got mine put in, wish I had did it along time ago with the inital install. Wasn't educated at the time. Do it. Don't take any short cuts with your fuel managment system it may cost you more in the long run. As I always say, call Seth at sonics, he put mine in and can tell you the diffence in fine tuning with it. My fuel pressure is regulated at all times at a set pressure, when boosting, it gives the me exactly what the car needs, no more or less. More fue, more air, more power, bigger injectors. Before the return system, I was always scared, my fuel pressure was always high as hell, my fuel pressure monitor was always buried in the High range (factory fuel system). When boosting, I would get too much fuel or too little. Don't play with your engine. Hit forums, you may find some good deals, also ebay may have the AAM for sale to. You don't have to pay the regular AAM price. I didn't. but if you do, its well worth it. As far as pistons, cams etc. Hit Sonics up again about that. oH and its not a stupid TT question. You may have saved somebody a blown engine or running a half azz tuned FI system just by posting this. Its only stupid when you don't ask. Good question. judging by the response, there isn't too many that are educated or willing to help a bro out with an answer. Hope this does...alittle.

well i guess i'll ask more questions... when it comes to injectors, can you get oversized injectors and down tune them to suit your application or is it like a one size one application... kinda like buying the common 600cc injectors but only using them to the potential of 440's or 550's... and... because your running 12psi, did you upgrade your internals? ... if you did when i'm assuming seth did the install were the pistons direct replace of the oem at 95.5mm with flush piston rings or did you go with a rebore to make sure the cylindar walls weren't scuffed or scratched up and then do the rod/piston install to make sure everything was nice nice...

these aren't really need to know, but more so out of my curiosity... if i'm gonna install a TT kit i rather do it right the first time then play the engine swap game every 10k miles...

First off, I was running 6 and 9 Psi with 440cc inj. When I went to 12psi, the 440s where okay but I wanted bigger because I was installing the AAM and UTEC, so I opted to go with 550cc. I haven't built the internals, my goal isn't 450whp...etc. If you plan on going well over the 400whp mark then you need to build internals (suggested). Remember, my 12psi is supercharged not TTpsi. 12psi put me at the 400whp mark but if I ran 16psi set up, then I would need to build internals, which isnt my goal. Since you going TT, go for it and buy the 600cc injectors, you'll have no problem. Don't do like I did and waste the money on 440s then turn around and get 550s. Get it now and do it right the first time..DONT CUT CORNERS or half AZZ!!!. Just make sure you install the same time as the TT. Don't put those injectors on a stock engine without FI. Seth or your Tuner can fine tune the engine for correct fuel/air ratio with the 600s......you'll be set. There is a wealth of knowledge out there on the forums. I don't want to insult your intelligence but here as some links to educate yourself on the dynamics of the systems. Depending upon the system you getting, they site will give you a list of what you need to run reliable and safe....not cut corners. Listening to the "Good ole boy shop" may not be a good thing. I'm sure you've did some kind of research since you are going TT....depends on what TT you're getting and ECU management system. Good luck and enjoy the new found power " Boost is Crack" believe me!

so s/c and turbos are two different games. 1cc = 1whp in injector size given a turbo setup. usually you want to stay at about 80% duty cycle so 440cc injectors @ 400whp is about safe with or without fuel return. but you dont want to over stress your fuel system that could lead to failures. what i would say is being safe 400whp w/o fuel return would be safe. i ran that for a while safely. injector got stuck open for me which is a manufacture issue(get deastchwerks not rc) not setup issue so much. over 400whp you need to get a fuel return and think about upgrading your injectors to something bigger than 440s. boost is crack so id say overbuild when you can.

Yeah, think you should PM Ryan for the internal build and tech info. His signature speaks for itself (527whp). Also, you didn't mention fuel pump! Since you doing the injectors, return system (maybe) you need an aftermarket fuel pump...again dont cut corners! Walbro recommended.

waiting for it all to get here... got the greddy TT and intercooler, utec, walbro fuel pump, i guess soon to be an aam fuel return system, and i want to do pistons and rods as soon as i figure out if boreing is going to be an issue along with some sort of estimate on labor costs... i wish i had the time and skill set to just do it myself... already have the exhaust, plenum, jwt clutch and flywheel.

Dayum dude...seems you got what you need. I'm sure you could use some more tech assistance for those little things you may have forgot about, such as catch can, boost controller....maybe not essentially needed but nice to have....then again, I'm not a TT guy that can give all the info. If you went supercharged then thats another story. Good luck with the build.
