Below is the best thread on the forum, please read and subscribe. Anything you want to know about motor oil for FI, N/A engines etc.

https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...-and-info.html

After researching, comparing graphs, reading this looooong azz thread, my choice: Rotella-T syn

Did Mobil1 from day one 2003-2008. Went FI then changed to Rotella-T full synthetic 5w 40 last 2.5 years.

Royal purple is a high detergent oil. It's not recommended for high performance use. It was formulated for keeping engines clean. However under high performance applications it can be extremely harmful. It does not have the ability to hold the hydrodynamic wedge under extreme conditions such as high revving or high power engines. It was not formulated for racing it was formulated for fleet vehicles. Marketing pushed it toward high performance to increase sales. I've seen numerous engines with spun bearings while running this oil. The machine shop we deal with majority of the engines that come in with spun bearings were running that oil. Royal purple even in their ads show bearings getting polished and claim that it's good. If the oil was good there's no reason for the coating on the bearings to be removed. For the coating to be removed and bearing to be polished means the crank is touching the bearing. Big fail. Keep in mind royal purple does have a line of oil meant for racing and does work well. However it's not the typical one every buys to ruin their high performance engine. Brand of oil is one thing but keep in mind what it was meant for not just the name. Most of the oil companies have badass oil for racing so make sure that's the line you're buying. I believe the good royal purple oil is called like racing 51. Believe me if you want or not i've seen more more than enough to convince me. Everyone gets so huffy about their oil.

Edit, I named the wrong castrol

I used to use Amsoil then I switched to Castrol Syntec Full Synthetic

My brother drifts his 180 pretty hard and he said that outside of redline Castrol Syntec is the best he has ever used. He also said that he has blown 2 engines using Mobile 1.

Outstanding! Thank you for that I've been trying to tell people that for years but people want to believe everything they see on TV nowadays.
