Yeah I did use a tripod!! It was a bit cold out more like freezing so I wanted to get a few pics and leave. In a rush I did not set it up all that well!!!

Something small that will make a big difference in the appeal of these types of shots... don't put the horizon in the middle of the pic.
Divide the image into thirds and put the horizon on one of the third lines.
