question 1: I already have a UTEC and planning a built engine + PE TT. (as per my previous thread). is the Haltech worth ditching the UTEC for?

question 2: I know the FCON VPRO is widely supported here in the UK, including the tuner I'd like to use for the engine build/install/tune, what about the Haltech? I looked @ Haltech's own website but only listed about 3 tuners, who I've never heard of. I understand it's not locked like the VPRO, but how long would it take a tuner to pick it up, vs a UTEC for example?

Question 1: Yes
Question 2: The new software is very easy to interpret and learn. Any tuner worth their weight should be able to adapt to the system very quickly. Many of the customers w/ no tuning experience have been able to use and tune w/ the Haltech PnP.

Got any installed pics?

$1045 - $1749 depending on which model. The one we use (Pista) has 8mb of data logging memory, 8 sensor inputs, G sensor, 6 alarm leds, 10 shift leds, etc.

You say it can control both intake and exhaust cam timing on the 06s. What about someone like me that has an 05 track with the revup. Can i control both intake and exhaust?

I believe exhaust cams can be controlled on all "rev-up" motors.

Yes, if it has variable exhaust cam timing (revups) then the Haltech will control it

Hal,

I remember reading some of the quick specs and noticed that you can't adjust the rev limiter on the "revup" engines? what gives? The UTEC can't adjust the rev limiter on the revup engines either. What is limiting all of the ECUs from allowing rev limit changes on revup engines/processors?

BTW, Thank you for the cam timing info earlier today!

Andrew,

Nissan implememented a soft-cut dbw limiter after a few years on the 350z, where it closes the throttle body at limiter. Since the Haltech is not controlling the drive by wire system we can not up the limiter on those cars.

No problem on the cam timing info. Also, with the cam solenoids unplugged the intake cams sit at ~0 degrees, and fully advanced at ~39 degrees.

If the ECU was reflashed to raise the rev limiter, I'm assuming that would alleviate the problem for Haltech and it could tune to the new red line? Also, is there anything you can do about the soft cut limiter with Haltech, as in making it less intrusive in 1st gear or changing it back to a hard limiter?

With controling the intake and exhaust cams on a revup motor would this just help in boost response, power, or both? Say a TT car pushing 20 pounds.

With the ECU reflashed, you can use the Haltech's built in rev limiter control. However, I would personally just let the stock ECU control it if you've got the nice soft limiter. This would be a nice feature for the Haltech to have, but I'm pretty sure that all throttle control is DBW that the Haltech has been designed not to alter. So no way to implement a soft limiter as far as I can tell. There are options for fuel cut or ignition cut.

Hmmmmmmm.........This makes me really wonder what the "installed" centerline of the cams are. I guess I'll have to fit a degree wheel onto a test motor. Thanks for the help!
