As for those who brings in their car for oil changes, is it $30 bucks for regular oil or synthetic? My DIY oil change cost me around $30 bucks (OEM nis filter & 5 Quarts of 5W-30 Mobil 1 Full Synthetic).
Correct me if I'm wrong, Last I remember synthetic oil change costs like $50-80 bucks?

My Z has always used non-synthetic oil in the past. On my next oil chance, if I was to switch over to synthetic, do I need to do something in particular before I pour in a different type of oil?

According Mobil1 website, just choose a shorter interval (3k miles) for the first time. Other than that, nothing you need to worry.
I won't say I haven't thought of trying it!

lol I didn't know people used Fram filters on Z.
One thing to add, make sure you check the old oil filter to make sure it still has it's gasket on it. If not you'll double up the gaskets when installing the new oil filter. This makes for a nice oil leak.
The flat fram gaskets do this often!

OP, thanks for posting this DIY up. bought my 07 Z about a month ago with only 16k miles on the odo and that time came around to change the oil. the day i bought my Z, i lifted her up because there was too much oil (it was slightly above the top dot) and when looking underneath the car, im thinking "damn how do i get to the filter?" and having an 8th gen civic Si before, i thought space was tight on getting to the filter on that car. removing 14 bolts was def. fun. Oil change took me about 45 minutes, mostly from sitting around for 25 minutes to let most of the oil drain. and whoever put on the filter on placed on so damn tight that i had to jam it with a screw driver and remove.

I've used fram filters for over 10 years now, and never had one single leak.
Perhaps those doing the oil changes are forgeting to coat the new filter gasket with some oil before they screw it on.
On a different note, I've been brainstorming ways to modify the deflector shield so I can change the oil, in a clean manner, without removing it. My GF's Corolla had a similar problem. I was able to cut the plastic shield under her car with my dremmel. Oil changes are a breeze now. Of course with the Z it's a bit different, considering the deflector actually serves a purpose. I'd hate to compromise the intergrity of why the panel is there or even cut an open hole in it, allowing dirty street water to splash up and dirty my immaculate engine bay.
Any thoughts?
